Title: Turret for a river patrol boat
Post by: lentulus on 12 September 2014, 10:08:47 PM
As cool as the whole boat would be, I don't see it as a likely release.

HOWEVER

Look at this webpage

You will see a number of pictures of a very small river patrol boat.  It would be a real candidate for a 10mm model since it is smaller than a tank.  What I wonder, however, is are  there any Pendraken vehicles with a turret (cast separately) such that I could use it with that hull - the hull is an easy build as such things go.

Those are funky. I think you should build a nice master and then send it off for production  :)

As for turret - what about the smaller turret on the T28?

Actually, I think they used the T28 turret for the secondary turret on some versions of the 1125-series 'River Tank" - this ones looks a perfect cylinder; say about a meter diameter?

It would be fun to have a whole series of these and Hungarian and Romanian river warfare boats,  and they are not large or complex boats.  But probably beyond my skill level, unless you can use balsa as master material.  I have made some decent ships out of balsa over the years.

There's a Soviet patrol boat mounting a T34 turret here

Yup, that's the 1125.  I have one in 1:144 - but it would be fun if it had friends  ;)

Some of the SCW armoured cars and early WWII vehicles probably have suitable turrets.

Hello lentulus

If it's the smaller river boat I'd just use some card, shim or similar wrapped around a correctly sized pen/pencil/whatever and use the same template to come up with the top. A spare vickers or maxim gun could be sliced off a stand and glued on for weaponry. Otherwise you could go for something interwar/early war:-

Trubia

Lancia

Bilbao

Vickers E Type B

Or even the turret off the Morris CS9

Thanks!  The trubia especially looks like a good candidate.

Hello lentulus

Alternatively there is a paper kit of that Russian gunboat :-

Available for £3.61 downloaded from here:-

http://www.bestpapermodels.com/en/ship-paper-model/paper-model-1-35-soviet-armoured-boat-bk-2.html (http://www.bestpapermodels.com/en/ship-paper-model/paper-model-1-35-soviet-armoured-boat-bk-2.html)

It's 1/35 but it could be scaled down and the small bits (and tarpaulin?) discarded. You could use the Pendraken US A22 .50cal AA MG with crew (2) for the turret gun and the rear gun, with Russian crew substituted.

Cheers
