We seem to touch on correct grammar quite often around here, so are we all playing with wargame miniatures or wargames miniatures?! I was knocking up an advert for something and wondered whether I needed that extra s...
:D
I'd go for wargames miniatures - many miniatures for many games. No doubt FK will be here shortly to tell me why I'm wrong ;D
Would you listen?
I think Charles Grant had a book out years ago called 'The Wargame', but it was Don Featherstone's title, 'Wargames', which most people seemed to adopt. Whichever I choose my spell checker tells me I'm wrong, as it only accepts them as separate words. Talking of plurals, however, AFVs is correct for many armoured vehicles, whereas AFV's denotes something belonging to one particular armoured vehicle.

Listen? Of course!
Agree? Not so much :) :) :)
Seconds out! Round two! ;)
But seriously, folks, as a collective name for the hobby surely "Wargames" is common usage? And please, no apostrophe....
Everyone speaks of "wargames", surely? Or Kriegspiel and so on.
Surely the plural should be "Warsgame" - like "Courts Martial".
:D
Er - NO

Silly person.
perhaps war's game

Right logic wrong outcome
Lots of courts, all martial ergo Courts Martial
Lots of games, all about war ergo Wargames
Quod Erat Demonstrandum :)
But war's a game that, were their subjects wise,
Kings should not play at....
(from memory)
Considering Leon's initial question; not very helpful.
Well, if you want a proper answer, I would suggest that either is correct. One may use miniatures to wargame, or one could use miniatures in wargames.
Personally I tend to use "wargames miniatures".
Wargames Miniatures.....Shirley....Surely ?
Cheers - Phil
I play toy soldiers!
Wargames at Wargaming...
I wargame.
I have miniatures.
They are Wargame figures.
Surely the answer is "Wargames' Miniaures". FK will sit in judgment on this.
Mollinary
Not sure about the possessive. Surely the word wargames is a noun epithet, and as such requires no inflexion to qualify miniaures, whatever they are. ;)
But Mollinary, the Miniatures don't belong to Wargames ... they belong to me :)
And just to start a further controversy, they are "figures" and always have been.
How about dodging the question entirely and describing them as wargaming miniatures - miniatures for wargaming? ;)
....aaaand....that's the problem with trying to apply Latin grammar to Anglo Saxon language. ;D
Pendraken makes lots of miniatures, for use in many wargames. Therefore, 'wargames miniatures'. Although, context can apply to modify that.
Teeny tiny toy men?
Tabletop gaming. It sounds less brutal.
Blood, sh*t and guts all over the place resulting in orphans and weeping widows games. Happier with that Ian?

Can also be read as "miniatures that wargame". ~X(

Ah! You've seen the spears on my 28mm dark age Scotti? Not go to mention the spears and bayonets of quite a few other figures I've seen over the years. They will definitely fight back against the unwary player! :D
