The other days we were discussing next years main Holiday. We had looked at a number of options and not come to amy real conclusion. So I suggested we looked at Thailand as one of the Guys at Tring Club had just come back visiting his sons in-laws and had a really great time.
THe conversation went like this
Orcs: How about Thailand?
Mrs Orcs: Thats a long flight, but it might get you away from all your little men!
Orcs: It would get me away from mine, but I might be able to get a game in
Mrs Orcs : I dont think you have much chance in Thailand
Orcs : I might be able to meet up with one of the guys on the Forum
Mrs Orcs: Doing Victor Meldrew impression " I DON'T Believe it!!!! Until I met you I had never even hear of wargames , or met a wargamer. We fly 12 hours round the world to the far east and you still find a Flipping game!!
Orcs: ;D ;D ;D ;D but I think Thailands out
Only fair to point out that I'll be in Italy in December, 12th-28th. Anyone know any gamers in Venice?
Try the Dadi e Piombo site. They may be able to put you on to someone.
That's taken the 'global village' concept to the next level. T'interweb does have it's uses.
It's arguably taking the "anorak nerd" concept to a new level too!

You realise that FK's house is a 'clothes optional' type of affair don't you? The missus might not be as far away from the 'little men' as she thought she would be...! :D

When in Rome - or Thailand ..........
I personally have no issues with a clothes optional lifestyle. I have never tried it outside the privicy of my own home, but I suspect being the only one fully clothed in an "unclothed" enviroment could well feel more uncomfortable than divesting your own clothes.
Its if Mrs FK or even FK could stand me in the nude - sorry for the mental images
Just when you thought it safe to be back in the forum, the subject turns to naked men..... :-&

Blame Leon he raised the subject. I suspect because of his prediliction to play Xbox naked
I'm sure I posted about that earlier, but maybe I forgot... The thought was making me nauseous.

A forlorn hope then :(
Back on topic, I'm off for a week of gaming with a group of like minded souls in a cottage near Stowe in the Wold this October - Geek Week the wife calls it ;D ;D
Cool! 8)
FK abides by house rules when he's someone else's guest.
Or in the streets. :D
Booked in for a three-day game at the Wargames Holiday Centre in November. Glad I don't have to haul all that metal about. It would take a fair-sized truck, I reckon.

I didn't realise they still existed.
I am off to Arnhem Monday with 4 of the Tring Club members for the 70th Anniversary of Market Garden.
Last night the conversation went like this
Mrs Orcs:- Ii has just occured to me that your going to Holland . How far is Amsterdam from Arnhem? :-\
Orcs : Wondering what military museum might be in Amsterdam replies -OH! nowhere in Holland is more than a couple of hours drive. (realises too late the significance or Mrs Orcs interest in Distance to Amsterdam) #-o
Youngest Stepdaughter Orc (on Ipad): No its only 1 hour 10 minutes.
Orcs: Gives Youngest stepdaughter Hard Paddington Bear stare >:(
Eldest Stepdauighter: I don;'t know what your worries about Mum- Its four wargaming Geeks. There only interested in Tanks and military stuff. >:<
So I am cleared to go and Mrs Orcs is doing my washing today :-bd

Alas our nearest and dearest know us way too well :-)
And there's me thinking she was going with you and wanted to do some shopping. Not til I got to the end did I remember the interesting shop windows in Amsterdam.
I think the correct answer would have been "a bloody long way in 1944" thus assuring your nearest and dearest of what is uppermost in you mind.
However, if you do get distracted, there is a bar, a bit hard to find and only for the specialist. It's quite small and usually packed when the star turn is on. The place is dominated by a huge screen and all around are feeder screens so you can get a good view wherever you sit. The clientele is a bit hard core and there are regulars who spend most evenings there. They can be a bit suspicious of strangers, but soon as they get used to you, they're very friendly. There's a few artistes, sometimes they have two on at a time. They've tried four on stage, but it's a bit cramped for that. Each is a specialist in their own way, some are fast 'n' furious, some make the audience work more - and there's always a few suggestions as to what the performer should do next. Some of these are ignored, sometimes the performer is willing to give it a go. I have heard that on some evenings, audience members can be taken up on stage to show what they can do.
Every hour or so, the lights go down, and the performer comes on - stark naked - through the curtains at the back. The screens all come to life and the he sits down on a huge couch, plugs in the xbox and away he goes.

The fact its only 1 hour 10 minutes did make me wonder about an evenings entertainment when the museums are closed. :d
But the thought of the trouble I would be in if we got found out put me off - Cos they would all blame me !!
