My son has given me some unpainted mounted figures suitable for late 1930s. I want to use them in BKC rules - [simply the best]. But I have never gamed with cavalry before being a WW2/post war player
I am assuming that one assembles two sets of figures to represent the unit and dismounted versions should be the same number of figures ? I usually mount five figures per base, but see an image of Nik's SCW battlegroup in BKC with four per unit. I am thinking that three/four cavalry abreast would be a better fit in the 10mm roads/scenery than five.
Does anyone game with late 1930s cavalry and got a basing system that plays best with BKC ?
I have both German and Soviet cavalry for my WW2 Eastern Front forces. I've gone with 4 mounted figures per (40mm x 20mm) base, compared with the 6 figures on most of my infantry stands.
I don't bother with dismounted figures for cyclists, motorcyclists or cavalry. Partly because I paint so slowly I'm reluctant to add more to the queue than is absolutely necessary, partly because I'm sure that I and my opponents have the imagination to visualise them dismounted but mainly because they have a distressing habit of dying long before they'd dismount :(
I have 3 cavalry figures per base, with the same amount dismounted. Check my AVBCW AAR below to see them in action. Hope this helps?

Thanks for the replies. My great uncle was served with the "Horse" (B Squadron NIH), and was in the retreat from Mons, 100 years ago this month. He recalled that they saw nothing but 'dismounted action', using the horses only to withdraw.
I have WW2 Polish forces. All our 10mm BKC stuff at The club is based on 30 x30 squares. I have three or four infanry on a base or two cavalry. This looks fine.
I base my RJW cavalry on 30x25 bases with 2 figures per base - mounted and dismounted
I have regular infantry stands and a cavalry figure on a penny to pop on to show if they're mounted. Basically like trucks... with no save and three hits in BKC mounted cavalry are hellishly vulnerable...
Cant remember what I did with 10mm but in 6 its 1 Irregular base or 4 H&R singles.

I went with 3 on a 50x25mm base for my AVBCW forces:

Also went with 3 on the SCW pieces I did:

I went with two WWI cavalry on a 30x20mm.
For BKC-II you are right about needing mounted and dismounted. Your call on how many, I was going to keep them the same although the mounted may look a bit cramped. My mounted recon have no dismount version, recon being a very different thing.
