Title: Polish Card Model Site
Post by: Orcs on 04 September 2014, 03:37:32 PM

A week or so ago Grumpy old man put a link up to a Polish Card Model Site

http://sklep.gpm.pl/en/modele-kartonowe/kolejki/1/87/pilsudczyk1/87-pp-52-pociag-pancerny-1/87

Well I Had a look and ordered a Polish armoured Train, and a small station and a small  Eastern Church in 1:87 and a windmill in 1:120. The total cost for these was approx 50 Polish Zlotys or £10.

The site was all in Polish with no translation, but it was fairly straightforward to order.  I did use Google translate a couple of times but the order process was fine.  Postage did make me wince as it autocalculated to another £10.  But compared to the Fairy Kaiku Armoured trai it was still a pittance.

About 3 days later I recieved a refund of £5 from them as the postage charges were less than they charged.

The parcel arrived well wrapped in card exactly a week after ordering.

The Churchand windmill  heavy paper, while the Train and the Station appear to be on 180gsm card. The instructiona re all in Polish and about an A4 shet for the buildings.  All parts are numbered and they have an exploded diagram, so assembly looks straight forward.

The train is incredibly complex, It consists of 2 A3 sheets of Card parts and has 3 A$ pages of instructions and diagrams, again all in Polish with the exploded diagrams.  there are some parts that I think ae supposed to be either reinforcing parts or used to support other parts, but I am not sure.  Whe I get round to this I am going to have to have a clear head and a steady hand to cut them out. It will be very fiddly to reduce and assemble in 10mm.

Overall this was a a positive experience and I am pleased with the things i bought.  The building will certainly get made in 10mm.  THe train I am not so sure - its just so complex and fiddly, particuarly without english instructions.  I might just have to bite the bulet and order the fairy Kaiku one

However I can recommend this company for the products, speed of delivery and the honesty to refund part of my postage charges when they were not needed.

One possible option with fiddly card is to use as a template on plastic card, cut and cement in the time honoured fashion. I have done this with buildings and boats, but do appreciate this a difficult build you have got yourself,

Hello JaFO

Glad you had a positive experience with the company. To be fair, I did warn that this train looked a more complex build in the original post. I've been caught out before by looking at a kit and thinking what a great model would be, scaled down from 1/35 to 1/150 and then seeing all the tiny, tiny pieces  :).

I did see a 1914 armoured train that looked an easier build in a Hungarian magazine a long time ago but the magazine comes up as long dead now and the model is only available from maybe dodgy Russian sites.

HI Grumpy,

Yes you did warn me and I thought that it was worth a go.  The buidings are really good, so even if I had spent the same  money and only got them I would not have felt cheated in any way.

There uis some really good stuff on thier website and they seem a reputable company and easy to deal with so a useful company to bear in mind.

Cheers

Hello JaFO

Totally agree, an agreeable and pleasant experience with an online business is worth it's weight in gold!!!!

It's why Pendraken, HLJ and others are always my first thoughts when looking to buy anything.

Incidentally here are some other links:-

http://www.maquettes-papier.net/forumenpapier/topic9428-225.html (http://www.maquettes-papier.net/forumenpapier/topic9428-225.html) has lots of simple buildings extracted from Sketchup files with Pepakura.
http://www.maquettes-papier.net/forumenpapier/forum85.html (http://www.maquettes-papier.net/forumenpapier/forum85.html) more conventional paper models of buildings including Downton Abbey!!

Cheers
