Title: French 1809 army pack question
Post by: old smokie on 03 September 2014, 04:04:03 PM
starting to paint the French 1809 army pack I bought a few years back  :o,

There are figures in the pack wearing a bear skin, some of the figures are on square bases the others on round bases, my question is are they grenadiers/carabiniers or a mix of both and how to do I tell the difference between them

TIA

Those should be the grenadiers from code NPF10 in the catalogue.  There are two poses of march attack, one with the square base and one with the round.

They're these two figure poses:

You can tell the difference through the bearskins:
grenadiers have a brass plate above the peak, carabineer don't. At least according to regulations but we know how closely they were followed  ;)

Carabiniers (the grenadiers of the light infantry) could also wear the plumed shako (or shako with pom-pom), with the red "v" taping, exactly like the line grenadiers.

There should be a pack of NPF6 in there, 16 light infantry figures including command (so 13 + 3 comm)?

heres what was in the pack, I think I have the codes right -

93 x infantry NPF 1
3 x guns & crews NPF 25 or 27
29 x Grenadiers (bearskin) NPF10
15 x Dragoons NPF19

command figures - NPF 3
8 x officers
8 x flag bearers
7 x drummers
7 x figures waving arm

Aha, we have a bug in the system!  Going by the website listing that would be the right composition, but the correct one is in the catalogue:

3 x NPF1
1 x NPF6, 10, 19, 25
1/2 x NPF3

So there should only be half a pack of command, and the other 15 figures are replaced with a pack of NPF6 Lights.

Apologies for the mistake there, I've updated the catalogue and I'll check to make sure the casting lads are using the right lists.  Can you pop me a quick email with your address and I'll get the missing figures sent out for you.
