Title: Deserter into the Egyptian army circa 1884
Post by: Maenoferren on 25 August 2014, 08:59:40 PM
Tonight I was merrily adding a different shade of paint onto my Egyptian troops, when I noticed that one of them wasn't actually an Egyptian.
so far he has been filed, glued to a base, covered in sand, covered in PVA to seal in the sand, sprayed black, base coated brown  and then when I get to the Iraqi sand colour.. I realise he is a confederate....
so now in my firing line the Egyptian's are bolstered by a rebel.
As for how he got there haven't a clue. The ACW samples Leon sent me came after these were glued to the base....

The only explanation, is that he sneaked across the casting bench, hopped into the Egyptian army bin, and buried himself down so he wouldn't be seen. Just like in Toy Story.

Why he wanted to do this, is perhaps best not considered to deeply.

I am more concerned that he chose the Egyptian infantry....

Ah well, a lot of them crossed the border in '65 to fight in Mexico... why not be adventurous and take it a step further?
An enterprising Confederate I'd say! (If the Egyptians are still wearing blue uniforms you might have a small problem though... :-\)

Cheers,
Rob

I believe the wee men have ability to move independently from the moment they begin their existence as putty masters, so this shouldn't really come as a surprise.
Even when pinned into corks, the little b*ggers go wandering all over the desk. ;)

Some figures are more similar than others. Telling GNW Swedes in felt hats from their Russian opponents - also in felt hats - is a job for better eyes than mine. You have to make darn sure they stay in their polythene bags until painting time.

I'm not even going to mention a culture not entirely remote from the two American continents.

I think you should add a beard to him & paint him as a 40 yr-old veteran (assuming he was 20 in 1864)  ;)

Ah yes! The Theran-Minoan range, much needed indeed Mollinary! I believe FK wants them too ... something hyphenated for sure ... I may have misunderstood ... accents can be tricky  :d

You can send your Confederate soldier to join my Egyptian army, presently under the brush. 1) He'll be able to name his price after picking off a few enemy generals; 2) cotton and Egypt go well together; and 3) an unquestioning assumption of racial superiority towards anyone black should be as congenial to Dixie as to the New Kingdom.

I had another look at him tonight... he has in fact jumped ship from one of his Majesty's vessels and is not a confederate.... :o
that does explain how he got there  :D
