. The guards on plates 26 & 27 wear sajones. (http://warfare2.netai.net/Renaissance/Hogenberg-26.htm). These may be the Pope's Swiss guard or Charles V's Hartschiere.

I reckon Fogolino's painting most accurately captures the Italian look, although admittedly I tend to focus on the 1500-1515 period.
