There are not many 15th century illustrations by Ottomans. One example is an Ottoman copy of Khusrau and Shirin, 1498–99AD (http://warfare.meximas.com/Ottoman/Khusrau_and_Shirin-Sultan-large.htm), which includes Khusrau riding on Shabdiz, his beautiful horse, while hunting (http://warfare.meximas.com/Ottoman/Khusrau_and_Shirin-Hunting-large.htm) and a battle scene with soldiers portrayed as 15th century Ottomans (http://warfare.meximas.com/Ottoman/Khusrau_and_Shirin-Battle-large.htm)

David Nicole in Armies of the Ottoman Turks 1300-1774, 1983, Osprey, says a Sulayman-namah, c.1500, Ms. 406, F 1V, Chester Beatty Lib. Dublin, is probably the oldest existing Muslim representation of Ottoman warriors. Does anyone have coloured images of this or other 15th century illustrations by Ottomans?

Very detailed mate. 8)
Not so keen on the trees, though ;)
Still a fascinating illo.

Trees are great Phil, everyone loves lollipop trees.
Hunting scene is interesting. Do you reckon the bound man (possibly slave/prisoner? - don't fancy his job) shows them using human bait for hunting big game cats?
Also dig the killer swans :)
Here is the frontispiece of a 15th-century Ottoman Sulayman-Name Ms. 406 (http://warfare.meximas.com/Ottoman/Sulayman-namah-Ms406-f1v.htm) thanks to matmohair1.

Again, the man hours and the fact it's survived, amazing.
There is also Sultan Mehmed II smelling a rose by Nakkas, Sinan Bey, end of 15th century (http://warfare.meximas.com/Ottoman/Sultans/Sultan_Mehmed_II_smelling_a_rose-Haz2153-f10a.htm)
and, thanks to matmohair1, the Sketchbook of Sultan Mehmed II, c.1440 (http://warfare.meximas.com/Ottoman/Sultans/Sketchbook_of_Mehmed_II-c1440.htm) showing drawings of heads.

Nice to see some realism in the art of Istanbul. Normally it's that very flat style, but the rose picture is really warts and all!
Love the sketchbook too.
Agree with Will about the rose picture.
The Sultan's sketchbook ? Hmmmm :-\ ;)
