Have any members of this fine forum insured their gaming stuff?
We will (hopefully) be emigrating soon, and I thought that it'd be a good idea to specifically list my figures etc.
Do you value them at replacement cost, or something else?
Hi when I moved to Spain I insured my figures at replacement value. I had to make a claim the company argued that I was claiming new value. I had to show then the prices on eBay for painted figures. They agreed to pay up, after that.
So yes is possible insure and is worth doing.
I have insured stuff to Australia, had some stuff damaged insurance companies were real nasty about it, looking back would have been cheaper to just take out total loss insurance and paid for a painter to re paint them for me with the difference in cost of the insurance

Thanks for the input. I've started itemising what I have - worth more than I thought, and that's just replacement value of the bare metal!
A good few years ago I contacted a reputable Figure Painter and explained that I wanted an estimate of the cost of replacing my entire collection for insurance purposes. I did offer to pay for this as I felt that was only fair.
He was quite happy to do this and even offered to do it for free, although I did insist on giving him some beer vouchers.
It may well be worth seeing if you can find a figure painter in the country you are emigrating too, so that should you need to claim is will be more straight forward.
In the case of aclaim I would not put it past an insurance company to insist you use the comapany who gave the estimate. They might even insist on paying direct to the painter.
Insurance companies will usually take a replacement estimate from anybody reputable involved with the hobby. I've done it myself for a mate. The heavies haven't turned up yet....
Angus Konstam (military author and chum) lent his magnificent 28mm Napoleonic Russian army to a friend who shall be nameless (but for the sake of argument let's call him Dougie Trail), who took it to a nightclub, got pissed and managed to get the lot pinched, how we laughed.

I've both insured my own stuff & provided estimates for painted replacements for a couple of people wanting to insure theirs - happy to give you a hand with this if you like :)
