Title: Returning veteran
Post by: Redstef on 12 July 2014, 08:40:53 AM
Hi all
Recently returned to the hobby after a 20+ year break. An opportunity (or so i thought) to be sensible in my activities in the hobby. By which i mean not buying more until i have painted what i have got and not starting lots of new periods because i liked the figures. Now this was going fine with my 25mm (still cant get used to saying 28mm lol ) and 15's but hit a problem with 10's.

I finished up my Pendraken FP Prussians and French and thought i'd add a few more, Gravelotte St.Privat here i come. Unfortunately i saw the LoA range. £30 later my well intentioned plans are in tatters and everything else is on hold..........its good to be back  :)

Welcome Redstef.
FPW is brilliant! Just adding a division to VIII Corps Prussians myself (3rd Prussian Corps, plus Wurttenbergers, Saxons, Bavarians and 4 Corps of French)!

Welcome to the wonderful world of wargaming :)

My kids reckon I have so much unpainted lead and so little time in which to paint it that a) in the event of WW3 I will be saved by my collections "lead shielding" effect and b) when I die they will be able to bury me with my armies arrayed around me like the Qin Emperor!

In my experience the denizens of this forum are fun, supportive, knowledgeable and ... mad as a box of frogs!

Enjoy!

Welcome back Redstef.

This is a friendly place, full of knowledgeable and interesting people. However, I warn you, it is no place for people with an addictive personality. Too may pretties to NEEEED!

By this ludicrous statememt you should fit in with this forum, and I see you have already blown it  ;D

So  your  proper introduction here goes like this     " Hi My name is Redstef and I am a wargemes addict"

We Reply "Hi Redstef welcome to Wargamers annonymous.".   However we dont help you to quit, just give you large doses of what your addicted too.

Hi, Redstef,

Don't worry, it's like riding a bicycle -  you never forget how. And, yes, 28mm is a modern abortion.

Thanks for the welcomes to war gamers anonymous everyone.... My name is Redstef and I'm a war gamer  :D

It was fun retrieving my stuff from its Harry Potter existence under the stairs and getting back to painting. I rejoined my old club at Loughton and met up with a few familiar faces from the old days.

Two things that have struck me

1. The amazing quality of figure sculpts these days. The biggest jump being in 10mm. My Pendraken FPW are of the old series and at the time were considered good models, but the current range  :o

2. Oh how rules have changed

Also i'd like to say how impressed i was at the speed at which the Pendraken staff sent out my order. It was almost like it was packed, ready and at the post office just waiting for the green light.

I think there may have been some Jedi mind tricks here. "Redstef, there are the figures you are looking for."

"... and these ..."

"... and you may need some of these ..."

"... oh, and these are nice."

I assume that Lougton Strike Force?   I was never a member but had several games with Kevin Brazier and Ralf Gibson.  Still keep in contact with Ralf.
