According to the Osprey booklet on Prussia's Allies, Bavaria used the Zoller System for its artillery, which are stated to have brass barrels. Anyone have pictures of these guns? Most wargaming pictures show the Krupp guns with the Bavarian gunners. Was Bavaria resupplied with the Krupp guns, and if so, when? I'm getting ready to paint the two Bavarian Corps and would like to do the artillery correctly.
I am not sure the Osprey is entirely accurate on this point. The Bavarian official history of 1866 already records the artillery as of two types, 6pdr rifles of the Prussian model, in Batteries of eight guns, and 12pdr Light smooth bore shell guns, also in batteries of eight. the horse artillery were in Batteries of six guns, and although the history indicates at least one Battery had 12 pdrs, it does not specify the equipment of the others. By 1870, the German Official History records that the Bavarian Corps that set off to war in 1870 were equipped with 4pdr and 6 pdr rifled guns, as were the troops of the North German Confederation, in Batteries of 6 guns. The 1st Bavarian Corps had 10 6pdr foot batteries, 4 4pdr foot batteries, and 2 4pdr Horse Batteries for a total of 96 guns. The establishment for the 2nd Corps was identical. Later some of the old 12pdr smooth ores were brought out as reinforcements. All the initial equipment is of the Krupp type. I seem to recall reading in Showalter that some Krupp guns were made of bronze, but I do not recall details of how many, or to whose contingents they were issued.

I agree with Andrew. I painted my Bavarians with Bronze guns to add a bit mother visual variety compared to the Prussians.

Peussian, they come from a small area outside modern Gdanzk, formally known as Peurrsia Minor or "Bloodyphønethinksitssodamedsmart"! Like all of Prussia, it was wiped off the map on '46, like that word will be taken out of my phones dictionary in 14!

Likewise the information I have on 1870 Bavarian guns is that they were Krupps, painted silver grey and the barrels were bronze. Also that the few Brunswick guns were Krupps, painted black with bronze barrels. Was this another example of Bavarian national pride in differentiating themselves from the Prussians.
