Title: Night Goblins vs Undead: The Battle of Longtassle Meadow
Post by: Ric on 03 June 2014, 10:55:13 AM
Last night Craig and I fought a bloody battle at the club. Things got a bit blurry in the middle of the battle as so much went on, and the pictures haven't all turned out fantastically well, but it was good fun, though many lessons were learned and rules were botched!  8)

Looks like a great game KOW does really work well in 10mm

One thing I didnt understand was "I  slipped in to my old games workshop "frantic" playing style"   What does this mean please?

Great report and nice pics - possibly says something about my eyesight but the pics look good to me!

KoW sounds a bit too Warhammerish for my tastes but it certainly seems to give a good game.

More batreps please!

@Fenton back when I was a fresh faced 18 year old I worked for games workshop, and part of selling games to kiddies involved playing demos where we were encouraged to hype everything up a bit, try to get them to feel emotionally invested in their little men, and make them NEED to lead them on to glory...in other words the hard sell.

I think playing fantasy again for the first time in years brought out my over the top enthusiasm for wargaming that perhaps I'd lost somewhat by sticking to purely historical for so long. don't get me wrong though I love my historical wargames, but it was nice to have that nostalgic buzz again and I couldn't help but slip back to the way I used to play games.

Fair enough

Its probably a bit like LSD  you can give it up and not feel the need for it anymore, but its still in you system waiting to give you a hit when you least expect it

Cracking stuff, nice to see two big armies done and on the table so quickly :D

Looks a right smash up of a battle too!

It was a fascinating little game - and Ric & I also wound up with a crowd of curious onlookers, who seemed to be intrigued at KoW as a chance to dig out some old Warmaster armies!  Perhaps more 10mm fantasy is on the way.

Top moments I can remember from playing:
1) Ric's Giant stamping on my Necromancer!
2) Ric's Battery of catapults exploding my cavalry units.
3) My zombie horde being charged by two fleabag rider troops, and not much caring (in fact, did they even notice they were being attacked?)
4) Both Ric and I realizing that flanking an enemy doubles your already generous dice-numbers.  Ever tried rolling 60 dice in one go?  I'm thinking of getting a suitcase to hold them all, in future!
5) The Vampire Lord and Wights revealing that they are near-invincible death-dealing machines - swiftly followed by the realization that I cannot get a decent dice-roll to save my life (or end a goblin's)
6) Ric's Biggit, spaced-out of his head on mushrooms, trying to take the entire army in the rear while based on a dragon (at least inside his chemically-frazzled mind - everybody else just saw some lunatic running around the fields by himself, foaming at the mouth.  He died, unsurprisingly!

It certainly was a spectacle and it was nice to have a group of interested onlookers! I thought it was a fun, if a little unbalanced, foray back to our fantasy gaming days and as I previously said it certainly gave me the nostalgic hit I was seeking!

It'll be interesting to see how many people dig out their warmaster armies, and it'll be good to get some kind of campaign going (still need to send you that I've just realised).
