Evening all
Peter from NZ reporting in.....having seen and used some of Paul R's very nice AWI troops that he has featured in his battle reports posted on the forum I have been....tempted....into 10mm to do some brigade scale early WW1 actions using Two Fat Lardies "If The Lord Spares Us" rules (with Western front adoptations) that I have wanted to do for a long time.
We have a small test game lined up for this Saturday....all going well (and with the wife's blessing of course! ;) ) will do an order shortly.
Will they look as good as the AWI stuff? - hopefully because Paul has provisionally indicated he is happy to paint them for me - in exchange for some more 10mm stuff....so a win/win situation for PM!
Cheers
Peter
Sorry, but it's mid-morning in proper time zones......
Hi
IanS
A very warm welcome to the madhouse, Peter ! ;)
Cheers - Phil
Life is better in the improper zones.
Welcome on board old chap :).
Hi Peter,
kev
Welcome to the forum!
Hello sir! Enjoy your stay! 8)
Hello Peter :)
Hi Peter, welcome to the forum.
As a fan of TFL rules and Pendraken figures I think you'll be very pleased with your choice. The Pendraken new releases for WW1 are particularly nice.
I like them so much I've filched some British Naval Division figures to act as WW2 Russian "Black Death" naval infantry and some WW1 Russians with grenades to add variety to my WW2 Russian partizans!
Hi Peter! Well done for giving into temptation!
Good evening Mr Shy, and welcome to the bestest, sunshineiest, happiest place ever! It's like Disneyland for wargamers.
Without the huge, scary mice.

Welcome Peter :-h
Some of the more astute on the forum will have deduced that the "in exchange for some more 10mm stuff" will be the NZ Mounted Rifle Brigage in Sinai and some Johnny Turks and Kaiser Bills for ITLSU :)
Hi Peter. Welcome to Happy Valley.
I think it was Tony Bath who originally invented the principle whereby "I buy two wargames units; you paint both and give one to me", so you're in good company. If Paul's doing the painting you're a lucky man. :-bd

Hi, welcome, look forward to hearing how your first game goes. norm.
Peter will, I think, provide an after action report but here are my initial thoughts:
- Jolly good fun :D
- definitely presents the players with interesting tactical challenges :-\
- a very different style of game from you go - I go ;)
Lessons learnt:
- attack 2 companies up even if the field is only wide enough for one, the companies can be in two lines
- don't attach both machine gun sections to the lead company
- do not ignore that village on your flank, even if it is a "long way" away
- get the artillery into action early
- the quick reference sheet for ITLSU leaves a lot to be desired (Peter half expected me to turn up at the game with a better one, I will next Saturday)
- when designing an ITLSU scenario avoid having victory conditions that depend on numbers of turns
We have added one House rule already, if the Tea Break card turns up without ANY units getting to do anything someone else gets to shuffle the deck ;D
Good Evening again
Firstly thanks for the welcome from one and all.
As Paul has mentioned we played a test game of ITLSU on Saturday based around a fictional scenario "somewhere in France" set in August 1914....thanks to Roy for once again allowing us to put his table to good use....I can't show you pretty pics of PM figures as I don't have any (YET!! ;) but we used some counters that I put together with a certain amount of cutting and pastiing.
I played the British and wrote up a AAR based on my take of events.... I have posted it in the Batreps section of the forum.
My take on ITLSU etc:
Absolutely love the rules, exactly what I was after. Well done TFL.
As they use a card deck they are very different to other rules I have played such as V&B, Spearhead, DBM etc but very easy to get used to.
British lessions learnt:
- Rolling high numbers is good (I don't have a reputation for rolling well :)
- Don't let your artillery get too close to infantry
- MG's can be extemely nasty if well sighted
- Don't use number of turns when dreaming up scenarios, the Tea Break card can turn up at any time.
Cheers
Peter
Welcome to the madhouse Peter, hope you can add some lunacy to it :d

Thanks Sean.....I'm sure I can.....my wife and kids roll their eyes at me pushing lumps of lead round a table so I'm well used to it :) ;)
We played another ITLSU game last night.....I'll put another AAR in the batrep area, but it was a tough day in the office for the Wellington Mounted Rifles.
Cheers

Maybe you should buy some Pendraken miniatures? So much more satisfying than lumps of lead.

Begin Monty Python Life of Brian voiceover "oh nice one Centurion, like it...like it".
Rest assured, I was convinced from the moment I saw my mates 10mm AWI stuff ;)
Now we have found the right set of WW1 rules figures will be ordered (from PM of course).
Where in NZ are you?
In Wellington area......played DBM and Spearhead/Modern Spearhead at the Warlords for many years.
