TSUNAMI - NEW RECOVERED VIDEO‏

Driver Yu Muroga was doing his job making deliveries when the 11 March 2011 earthquake hit in Japan.

Like many people in the area, Muroga was unaware how far inland the Tsunami would travel; he continued to drive and do his job.



The HD camera mounted on his dashboard captured not only the earthquake, but also the moment he and several other drivers were suddenly engulfed in the Tsunami's water.

Muroga escaped from the vehicle seconds before it was crushed by other debris and sunk.

His vehicle and the camera have  recently been recovered by the police. The camera was heavily damaged but a video expert was able to retrieve this footage.

quite an old one this, but still bloody frightening. I especially admire? the person who runs back to shut their car door as the water surges towards them.

I think this bit of video reinforces something I picked up years ago; if you're caught up in a natural disaster, react quickly if you want to live. Standing around wondering what's going on will get you killed.

Also, and I know this sounds unpleasant...think only of yourself (of course this rule might be modified if you happen to be with your partner or children) while the disaster is actually happening. You can start to worry about and help other people once you've survived and the immediate effects of the disaster have passed...remember you can't help anyone if you're dead.

To be honest the guy who went back to shut his car door was a prat! I wonder if he lived to tell the tale.
