10mm Skirmish Game Set in Grenada, 1983

Today I got in a playtest of some skirmish rules I've been working on (that is, 1 base is 1 man, and they activate and operate individually).  I've had a tough time with getting rules together for this; I've tried several different sets, and, as always, I've worked up my own.  Even today it took me a few tries to get to something that was workable and quick.  But, I think I found it, so here's the batrep.

The set-up is that a squad of 82nd Airborne doggies is on patrol to secure a crossing over the (fictional) Huevos River.  Defending is a squad of Cuban regulars, with their primary defensive position being a sandbagged emplacement holding a light machine gun, overlooking the bridge.


The US squad, using Pendraken US forces from the Vietnam range.  The squad leader, Sgt Bilko, is at far right, and his squad is sub-divided into three teams: the first team (bottom), is four men, led by Corporal Beetle Bailey, and has an M-60 LMG and two rifles.  The second team is led by Cpl Snuffy and has an M-79 blooper (I know they should have M-203s by now, but I don't have any) and two rifles.  The last team is comprised of three scouts with M-16s, led by Cpl Klinger.


The Cuban squad, using Pendraken Argentinians from their Falklands range, with squad leader Sgt Zorro at far right.  The bottom team, led by Cpl Doritos, has four riflemen, whilst the top team, led by Cpl Tostitos, has a LMG and two rifles.


Initial dispositions on my 3' x 2' tabletop, looking north.  You can US scout team at bottom left, Cuban MG team at top right, and Cpl Doritos team at bottom right.


First thing out the gate, the 'lone sentry' on the hill, from Cpl Doritos' team, opens up and puts Cpl Klinger out of action (bottom center).  One of the remaining scouts moves into the house and returns fire, while the other stands his ground (besides Klinger) and returns fire, putting down the lone sentry.  The M-79 grenadier and M-60 gunner both come on (on the road) and fire at the Cuban MG position, while the Cuban MG returns fire.  No one hits anything...

Thanks guys!  Grenada's not really my period either, just happened to be the only locale (other than WWII) I had forces ready that made sense for.  It did serve to help me iron out some skirmish rules, though I wasted (maybe wasted not's the right word) a lot of time getting to something I liked.

I really like this Jack and look forward to more reports. I plan on doing Chain of Command in 10mm, but as always it's a case of finding the time, given my other projects etc.
