I have been looking around for a satisfactory set of rules for the mid 19th century and have yet to find one. I was interested to see several contributors to this forum recommend the Neil Thomas rules and bought the book. It gave food for thought but I wonder if they could be used with armies that are more than ten units strong. Ideally, I would like a set that would lend itself to solo wargaming as well as to the more sociable sort of play :) I'd be pleased to hear of any suggestions,

Chad

There are a number of rule sets available , depending
on what specific area you are interested . These
are a few:

1859
1866
1870
Field of Battle (probably good for solo play)
Polemos
To the last Gaiter Button
They Died for Glory
Chassepot & Needle Gun
Age of Valor (due this year)
Volley. & Bayonet

Hope this helps.

Many thanks to all of you who replied. I'll give them all a look but at the moment Field of Battle's solo possibilities look promising.

Can't speak for Black Powder as such, but I have really been enjoying Hail Caesar (the ancients set by Warlord) which uses the same basic mechanics.
