Nice to see the King's part-work ship is coming along nicely.

He's be one of the few people that could afford it !
Sheesh !!......Unless we completely misread the small print on the tele the other night !!

I'm sure I've seen one of those musketeers use a musket. And why so down on France? It's our nearest continental neighbour, the scenery is beautiful, the food is amazing, there's more sunshine, it has a fantastic history and it's had the good sense to have a revolution and get rid of the type of bastards who are running(ruining) this country. La France, je t'aime!

If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Ithoriel

Why don't the Musketeers use muskets? Dunno. Presumably the same reason most dragoons don't actually use a dragon no fusileers a fusil and grenadiers aren't the only ones using grenades?

France? Why not, after all we were allies for 300 years.

As to the difference between those at the top in a Kingdom or a Republic - you couldn't slide a sheet of A4 between the two :)

The France is the old enemy, and their accomplishments vastly overrated when compared to England.  Our scenery is better, our food is better, the weather issue is somewhat mythical (Bordeaux gets more rain than Edinburgh), our history is better, we have had more revolutions.  However, that's not my point.

My point is we have a vast repository of literary and historical stories to draw upon; why draw on traditions from other nations?

Why not a series about the Diggers or the Levellers?  Why not a series set during the ECW?  When are they going to make the epic series about Stephen and Matilda and The Anarchy?  Or the Wars of the Roses?  Or the Peasant's Revolt?  A dramatic series about Wilberforce, Alfred the Great, Nigh Bevan, Boudicca, Francis Drake?!

Why are we continually looking to other countries for the same tired old stories?

Is my point.

Why would I prefer English literature to French - it's all foreign muck!

Well I do agree Luddite , but sadly I dont think many people know about Stephen and Matilda except what they have read in the Cadfael books

*lights fuze on grenado*

Just to get references right - are we comparing England, Britain or the UK to France?

In my humble opinion, Scotland has a lot to offer in the scenery and history.
*grenado fuze splutters*

I'd like to see a series about for example, MacBeth who was much besmirched by Shakepeare though he ruled for 17 years; the entire Norse period; the Border Reivers! So much excellent Scottish history and stunning landscape.

Much better than French tat, and all that boring old English stuff.

The France is the old enemy

That would depend on which country you are talking about.

Vive the Auld Alliance!!

Exactly.

So perhaps lobby the BBC for more dramatisations of Walter Scott. Personally, I'm enjoying the Musketeers' scenery that I wouldn't be seeing in a drama set in Britain.
