Old Lead

I realise this will probably mark me out as some sort of wierdo but I run out of new things to paint (pending next shipment from Pendraken) when this normally happens I strip down a unit I've bought at a Bring and Buy stall so while I was waiting for the Nitromors to do its magic I had a root through my 'waiting to be painted tin'.

This is an old malt whickey tine which I keep all the figures waiting to be painted and it's currently about half full, which suddenly struck me as weird, I've about a kilo of lead and nothing to paint!  Closer examination on the tin's contents revealed that they are all, odd figures from old projects, a few individual 15 and 28mm figures but mostly 10mm which aren't enough to make up full units.

Some I will use as spares or to create makers etc but there is still a core I won't use.  I don't want to thrown them in the bin, but what can I do with them? 

Would Pendraken taken them off my hands and melt them down for new models?

Not really unfortunately, as there are so many different metals out there that it affects the ratios of the alloy in the pot.  I've heard of other companies throwing anything in the melting pot, from 40 year old figures to roofing lead, but I can't see it being good for the quality of your product.  Some old figures (the really dark ones) have a very high lead content, so if you put a load of them in the pot then the new figures become duller and more pliable, leading to bent tank barrels and pikes.

I reckon if we all kept all of the bits we clip and file off we could get enough together to cast a brand new FSN

Then Steve could shrink wrap it for transport in his new vacuum doo dah!

I'll donate all the clippings from my new army packs and Mongols; should be about 20 kilos when I've done

That's a shame, I'd have like to see them recycled as something useful, there's not enough to take to a scap merchant and I'm loathe to just bin them, I'll put them in the metal skip next time I'm at the tip.

Alternatively if we enough of wargamers in the room we could organise a giant swap shop

My odds and ends got recycled into fishing weights for several years.

When they made me, not only did the break the mold, they smashed it, then each of the broken parts was given to a trusted mute, who travelled in different directions to a wilderness and buried the piece. The mutes who returned were then slain, their bodies burned and the ashes cast to the winds.

I think they cherish my uniqueness.

You could always try some other companies, it's still usable metal.  If someone added it to their pot slowly, it wouldn't overly affect the alloy too much?
