So could they be used to transfer troops closer to the opponents? If so that would be pretty cool haha

Depends on your rules, I guess. For example, the midwar BKC lists allows German trucks to move guns, infantry and support elements whereas Russian armies of the same period can only use them to move guns. Russians have the option of moving some of their infantry on the backs of their tanks, as they did in real life, to help make up for that.

FOW actually uses the ZIS truck as the HQ vehicle for the katyusha battery.

Very true Ian but that would be "off-table" for us. Which is why they don't have the option to arrive in trucks during the actual game in the army lists, I presume.

That said we've just had a scenario which started with Russian infantry in trucks being ambushed by German armoured cars. They're army lists not tablets of stone
