All these names are a) in a foreign language, and b) are actually descriptions of where the places are located. So, on that basis I could rename the town where I live as:

Thesmalldormitorytowninthemiddleofnowehere closebytheM25atthejunctionoftheA10oneithersideoftheroadtoCambridgewiththehugeTesco nearthegiantprintingworksofRupertMurdoch thatblightsourcountrysideformilesaround andcausestrafficjamstwiceadayonabusyroadwheneveryoneistryingtogettoworkorhome.... and so on. Translate that into Sanskrit and off we go.

Couldn't I?

;D
But what does it mean Fierce Kitty?

Not a place description.
It means "The Capital City of Angels, The Residence of The Emerald Buddha, The Great City Impregnable, The Gracefulness of the city is steadfast and thriving, The Grand Capital which is abundant with The Nine Noble Gems, it is a Pleasant Capital, The City is abounding with the enormous Royal Palaces that resemble the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated God, Home of the Gods Incarnate, which was Erected by Vishnu at Indra's Orders".

Not surprisingly, "Krung Thep" to locals (= Los Angeles), and "Bangkok" to foreigners, though that's like calling London "Westminster" or New York "Manhattan".

I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

O Dinas Powys

(I know, even though it's fantasy  :o  ;)  )

Sounds like they're overcompensating for something?!  ;)

Well spotted. They made it the capital shortly after the Burmese had turned the old one, Ayyuthaya, from the largest city in the world to a heap of rubble with a population of about
10, 000.

Lord Kermit of Birkenhead

Lets get this right - the DM likes people form the puffy South East, or who have English passports and live abroad. Real English are not part of its demography at all.

Kind of puts "Nottingham" - "the village of Snot" - into the shade.

However, these are all outshone by the Shetland place name "Twatt".

While I like living in the place, that name is no description.  Kyoto Bangkok is not.
