Hi.  i wondered if anyone could help me with painting the British 16th Light dragoons.  I'm having problems with info for the horse furniture.

Having looked in the Encyclopedia of Uniforms for the AWI by Digby Smith and Kevin Kiley, it just says it was of standard issue, but makes no reference as to what standars issue was.  there is a 17th Lt. Drg. trumpeter with a white shabraque - but we all know trumpeters colours could be varied, so no help there.

I then looked in the Blandford Uniforms of the American Revolution.  This has a 16th Lt. Drg. mounted figure, with a silver grey?white shabraque.

Having looked at dazza's brilliant AWI Teaser post, the Lt. drg. figures there (and I presume they're the 16th as they have blue facings) have a blue shabraque.

Can anyone please help and advise me as to the correct shabraque colour please.

By the way, aren't the Pendraken AWI figures absolutely brilliant?

Many thanks.

from most findings I had at the time it showed  :  17th's were white and the 16th's blue

Thanks Dazza.  I will bow to your superior knowledge and will use the blue - it makes sense and will look better.

Hi Dave, from what i can find Dazza is right. I did my 16th in blue and yellow edge for troopers.  If you go to the National army Museum site and click on the info for the 16th it does show a pic of an officer with blue and gold edged saddle cloth, not a very clear pic though, i would put a link onto the site but i'm pant's on computers. Hope this help's,

Thanks Kev. It's really great to have help at hand through the forum.  I've done the deed and painted them blue - looks much better now!

Thanks   DaveL

:'(       Both white as far as I know, with  a slight variation in the yellow edging and blue stripe(s) . Source, The British Army in the American Revolution, by Alan Kemp. I think they are pictured in Mollo's book too.
