I think 1996 is the publication date? I actually finished it last night and returned this morning right on time  A good overview of the war (more or less the standard from what I gather), although honestly for me a bit difficult to understand all the battles. I read the section on Jincin about four times to get a picture of what went on.

Give Gordon Craig's Koniggratz a look. Despite the title it is a clear description of the whole of the Bohemian campaign with some useful maps. Inspired me to game this period in the 60s; sadly only Airfix conversions at the time - time to quote Harold MacMillan!

Thanks Dour Puritan have the Koniggratz book in mind to read shortly. First have to finish the new Joe Kennedy biography I took out last weekend.

You could do worse than have a look at Messrs Drewienkiewicz and Brentnell's The Austro-Prussian War of 1866, which lays out the opening battles of the campaign in wargaming terms. Quentin Barry's The Road to Königgrätz is also a highly readable account of the campaign.

The Quentin Barry book is on my wish list. I have been very impressed with his Franco-Prussian War books. Also, once my Prussians are ready to rock and roll I will continue and complete my 1866 Austrians.
