I have posted this over on TMP but thought i may aswel ask here too, so here goes
I know the topic is a bit vague but, i am new to this period so there are no orbats, army lists etc.

i have the brigade battle book which suggests 1 support weapon per battalion. However i am wondering how much transport to give, does the 1 per battalion include things like armour?

just looking for a little guidance before going crazy. if it is important i am running BUF and Albertine Naval detachments.

cheers

Hi Jon,
this is how we've been playing things in our narrative campaign over the past few years. Really it is up to you but we tend to use 'historical' OOB as a guide for this period if that makes sense?

You could look at a historical OOB for pre-war British Army and base it around that (or even use an early WW2 one!). ;)
But as it's a somewhat confused Civil War you can really do pretty much as you like. I ended up creating my own, as you can see here https://sites.google.com/site/grahamswargames/a-very-british-civil-war-campaign

What rules are you going to be using?

Sunray

I'll second the vote for Graham's gaming.  Very good OOBs and the counter factual history has a certain crediability. BKC works well.

The fun is when you take a familiar location and game it.

Here's the concept of AVBCW

The answer is you'll find some, but they're not really in the spirit of the game.
You're dealing here with irregular forces where the OOB is 'whatever the faction can get their hands on'.
This gives you the opportunity to come up with a really cool concept for a faction and go for it with gusto!

Want to do a group of 1930's 'road warriors', perhaps 'Lord Tremendous' militant AA convoy'?  Sort out a force with trucks, cars, maybe a few armoured cars, motorcycle outriders etc., all covered in improvised armour and weapons.

Want to do a noble's private army stocked from his fox hunt, country manor game hunters, and armed with the Englich Civil War era pikes and muskets he has festooning the hall of his country pile?  Go for it.

Want to do a communist enclave of factory workers?

How about a militant church defense force of armed Womens Institute members and the local cricket team?

Basically anything you can think of, smother it in Jeeves & Wooster sauce, strap in to a Heath Robinson contraption and fight the good fight!

Just remember - 'super weapons' are an SMG that works, an armoured car that has fuel in it, and a home made light mortar that might not explode the first time you use it.

It includes whatever you like really.

But tanks should break down, or run out of ammo; field artillery should be crewed by chaps who have lost the operator's manual; and people's gardens are impassable terrain (there might be a war on but there's no sense in grubbing up the rose bushes old boy).

Spend some time on YouTube watching a bit of Black Adder the Fourth and Jeeves & Wooster.

Then, come up with a concept for a force.

Then, build up a bunch of chaps that see fighting a war as akin to playing a cricket match.

OK,

The BUF

Dastardly chaps don't you know?  All that marching about in silly black uniforms - its not British is it?

And they're cads of the first order who actually take time to train their men.  Not the done thing.

The King has opened up the armouries to these rum sorts, so they'll probably have some decent kit too.  Outrageous.

Albertine Naval

Jolly Jack Tars to a man.  Regular military, but they're not much cop off their boats eh?  Probably well trained and disciplined (unless they get near a pub or rum barrel; and they have an alarming tendency to get distracted by the local ladies - all that time at sea gets them hot under the collar).
They'll not have too much in the way of vehicles and will probably stick to the coastal zones, but my word this ships guns pack a punch at long range!

Here's my AVBCW campaign underway.

We have the Chopwell Communists trying to take the North East.
The Gateshead BUF, supported by the ultra-right German League.
Lord Lambton's private army (equipped with WWI French kit).
The army of the Northern Marches, guarding the land north of the Tyne River.

We're playing the next battle this week actually.   :D

It annoys me that the rules assume Shropshire to be die-hard royalist!

I know land owning gentry in SouthWest Shropshire who can trace their ancestors directly back to 1066, and they all viewed the Windsors as 'young upstarts'!  ;D

Helps when your mum owned the only decent restaurant around in the 80s...

Hello ciaphas

I agree pretty well with all the above. You can also pressgang details from the Spanish Civil war to fit how you feel. There are some free OOB at http://www.balagan.org.uk/war/crossfire/fuego-cruzado/order-of-battle/index.htm for Crossfire but it doesn't take much to alter them. There is also a book on Spanish Civil War armies at http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/98090/Armies-of-the-Spanish-Civil-War-Armies, including systems to randomise the forces.

Being Interwar I tend to damp down my enthusiasm for large armoured formations, the service wagons and horse drawn limbers would be handy. Anything mechanised I have has an ability to break down.

Cheers
