A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed.
She puts on her dressing gown and goes downstairs to look for him.
She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall.
She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.

'What's the matter, dear?' she whispers as she steps into the room, 'Why are you down here at this time of night?'

The husband looks up from his coffee, I am just remembering when we first met 20 years ago and started dating. You were only 16. Do you remember back then?' he says solemnly.

The wife is touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring, so sensitive. 'Yes, I do' she replies.

The husband pauses. The words were not coming easily.. 'Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?'

'Yes, I remember!' said the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him. The husband continues. 'Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, "Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20 years?' 'I remember that too' she replies softly.

He wipes another tear from his cheek and says...

'I would have been released  today.

Better half and I almost always forget ours....So there's never any problem for either of us.
It's always the other members of our families that remind us....And we have to pretend that we know what they're talking about when they phone. ;)
Three and a bit years and we'll have been married for 40 years....You'd think we'd remember by now. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Greetings

My wife claims I only remember our anniversary as the third item on the list of what happened on the date in question:
• D-Day 1944
• Israeli invasion of Lebanon 1982
• our wedding ...

Our 20th coming up at the end of May. Everything we did seemed to happen on the 29th - we met on the 29th, we got engaged on the 29th and we married on the 29th. But not necessarily in the same year.....
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

So you are pretty screwed, if you ever forget, you will have forgotten every single one and are subject to a tremendously grumpy wife  :P

Can't have been hotter than July 3rd 1976 surely Will. (See ...I can remember it when I don't need to !)
Vicar turned up for the service in a tee-shirt and shorts....and brought forth the withering comment from the Mother-in-law..."Who on Earth is that !....Doesn't he know there's a wedding on ?"
