GW rant

My usual reply to "and what are you painting just now?" is usually "Carthaginians!", the result is either a glassy eyed look of incomprehension or a twattish "oh are they a chapter that you just made up?"

  nice one Gordon, never been into a GW shop before but i have heard there is one in Budapest ( model shops here are like rocking horse s##t) , going up there in a month for a jolly boys weekend with mates from back home so might put my head in the door to see what the sales guys are like here. Most Hungarian sales staff are easy going on the whole but my villlage shop keeper is very much like arkwright, been trying to sell me rabbit fencing for 4 years and iv,e never seen a bloody rabbit,  . Wild boar, deer, eagles and an odd hare but no rabbits.

I went into GW to get the new washes when they came out. The conversation went like this

Games Workshop employee. "Hello, What do you play?"

Orcs "Historcal wargames mainly, can I have a set of the new washers please"

GWE. ( completely ignoring my request ) "You want to get into Fantasy!"

Orcs " I do play some fantasy, I have an Orc Army for Lord of the Rings/Tolkiem"

GWE " Yes Our plastic Orcs are really cool, do you want some more?"

Orcs. " No thanks, I use metel figures from Vendel Miniatures."

GWE.  ( Slightly disgruntled and not knowing Vendel Miniatures says mockingly ) " Metal figures are expensive, how big is your army "  ( smirks as obviously expecting answer in double figures)

Orcs .(Smiles and says )" No I pay about hallf what your plastics cost. At the last count I had about 500"

GWE . (Stunned into Silence finally goes and gets washes, Returns and says)  "bet you never get those on the table all at once"

Orcs . (Trying not to grin too much  ) " Most games I do, last game i we had over 2000 figures on the table.


Not likely to win the GWE over but  the look on his face made me smile the rest of the day.

Whether it's taught at GWsales school or aqquired throughout a life of unbending devotion to patronising twattishness, that is exactly the line that gets me peeved.

Thanks GWE, I knew I'd be better off coming to you, and there I was thinking I'd never realise what's missing in my life.

I've never had that sort of problem.  In fact, when I was looking for a green for SYW Russians the guy couldn't be more helpful- even put some on a figure so I could see if it was the right shade.

I went in to the local GW a couple of weeks ago, and the guy was really helpful.  Talkied about undercoating WSS Prussians.  Didn't try and get me to do any WH, and showed me some painting tips on one of their figures

Those guys get fired pretty fast in my experience. A pitty but then again I am neither a shareholder nor a manager @ GW so I do not mind them shooting themselves in the leg repeatedly....
