Well according to the film version of Atonement, The Dunkirk evacuation happened on Redcar beach

I've got a couple of mates who were extra's in that one.  I'm not sure they got to meet Ms. Knightley... but we can tell Nik they did...  ;D

Just remembered Piercebridge in early ECW

I'm sure I was once told that there was a number of ECW scraps around the area. No evidence what so ever but I'm sure there'll be a little booklet publish by some random and obscure local historian.

Stockton castle was captured by the scots in the ECW but i dont know if there was any fighting involved

Cheers for that, re atonement, for about a year afterwards you could still see the painted battle damage on some of the buildings

The Masham the night the Black watch walked in and told the Barman to take the Green Howards plaque down.  :o
just happened to be the night A Coy Green Howards were in there drinking (I was in there with my brother a member of A Coy)  >:(
Masham was shut for a few days re-decorating.
