May I just say, despite the awful behind the scenes allegations against it's creator, the new series of 'The Sandman's is very good. Great cast and well thought out stories and scripts.
Gwendolyn Christie absolutely living her part
Jenna Coleman again showing what a talented actor she can be with a great range (if you've not seen her in 'The Jetty's, it is a tour-de-force), and how she can both play serious, straight man and the foil.

Raider4

I remember watching the first season. I can remember nothing about it, other than it was about a super-skinny Robert Smith clone moping about.

I know I'm getting old (despite being in the spring chicken phase amongst forumites) but I think I still have a good selection of my marbles (and yes, I see the flaw in that logic.)

I was up in the games room today, and came across this ... box.

It's a bottle box, designed for carrying a bottle of wine. I don't remember buying it, but it would have been in the heady days when I was visiting antique and 2nd hand shops with my mother - say 10-15 years ago. It is not an old box, it just looks that way.

Intrigued, I opened it and was frankly gobsmacked.

Eight sets of dice, three tape measures, a dice shaker and a bag of counters. Did I buy all this for me? Unlikely. I never use counters, no dice shakers, and Nobby's rules tend to use proper d6 and not these polyhedral absurdities. 3 tape measures? I have a trusty 5 yard one that was my father's. I have a Glenfiddich tin with many. many dice.

So I didn't buy it for me. Did someone buy it for me? Not that I can remember. Only one who would do so would be my mother, but she wouldn't have the self confidence to have filled it. Did I then buy it as a gift for someone? Nope.

This then is an enigma.

Maybe my marble bag has a bigger hole than I thought.  :-\

It's the first of August.

And Film4 have today broadcast A Christmas Carol, followed by Miracle of 34th Street, followed by Jingle All the Way.

Why?

So you can appreciate* them as artistic eneavours without all the Christmas schmaltz and bullshit getting it the way?  :-\

* Level of artistic merit entirely up to you to decide...  ;)

Makes sense, Christmas is just a repurposing of the Northern European mid-winter festival; these are 'It's cold and dark, and the stored food run out soon, lets have a party.'
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.
