Aye, went there too. Was not a pleasant experience, purely because of the heat.* Never made it to the top floor.

Picked up what I wanted - sorry, nothing from Pendraken this year.

Seemed a bit less crowded than the last time - 2019 - I went?

Lots of people showing beautifully painted scenery and selling it unpainted.

The only stall that intrigued me with something new was ROK Minis, selling small scale "battles in a box". Investigation when I got home revealed it's all 3d-printed resin miniatures and cast resin buildings.

When I left at ~midday there was an enormous queue of people trying to get into Newbury - apparently the County Show was on this weekend. Luckily I got there early and missed that chaos.

Hope it was worth the long journey for Pendraken.

* Although the pool of dried vomit in one of the stairwells did not help.

Blimey! That's a bit warm... sadly the Pendraken rapid ordering beer system wasn't working, I believe!

26C in the house when I got home and this felt nice and cool!

Techno 3

Spent most of yesterday afternoon on the roof, helping a friend who was replacing a ridge tile.

I stayed on the flat roof 'footing' ladders. Swore, when I put my hand on a bit of lead flashing.
*?!#,,,that was hot !
I'll do this later

Well that ended better that I thought it was going to. :)

Techno on a roof ... what could go wrong?

I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

From the Pendraken front page
QuoteWe've had a lot of messages asking about [Chieftains]

Repeated moans from Nobby doesn't count as 'a lot'.

Centurions are my first love  :x I could wax legs about how wonderful the Centurion is.

Secondly, the Churchill. Squat, ugly, slow - we have so much in common.

I have always decried the Chieftain as a smoky interloper ... but I have come to appreciate its finer qualities - whatever they are.

Now, where are those FV432's and Abbotts?

That picture I posted - just remembered a story a (then) fellow re-enactor told me about 30 years ago.

He was off to some do, and had to cross London by Tube. The easiest way to carry a mail shirt is to wear it, so he had a coat over the top to hide it.

A mugger pulls a knife on him - guy refuses to be mugged.

Mugger uses knife and slashes coat.

Nothing happens...

Re-enactor put his hand into his bag, and pulls out an axe (I'm guessing Viking-ish) and says "Now it's my turn..."

Mugger runs.
