Quote from: Orcs on 19 September 2022, 09:33:14 PMWhen I met him at the last Salute, he seemed a very capable young man, and a credit to you both.

I am sure he will be fine, even if it takes a little while to settle in.

Cheers Mark, he texted us today after a couple of days of silence just to say that he's doing OK.  He's done a bit of exploring around the campus, had a shopping trip to Morrisons and seems to be getting on well with his new housemates.  He doesn't drink (currently!) so his Freshers Week is a little calmer than usual!

Quote from: Leon on 19 September 2022, 07:00:43 PMWe dropped the eldest off in Bangor yesterday to start University.  Bit of an odd feeling leaving him there on his own but I'm sure he'll be fine.  He's doing a conservation and woodland management course, all about saving the trees and reintroducing wolves and beavers to the UK, so it's right up his street.

House feels a little emptier without him clanging about though.
Been there, albeit a few years ago.  Mine went to Aberdeen, about as far from home as it was possible to be.  He loved the experience and ended up sharing a house with five other who became friends for life.  They even came out to Australia for his wedding.  It sounds to me as if he's going to be just fine.  A word of warning, they are still able to reach into your back pocket regardless of where they are in the world.

No it doesn't.  The truth is, though, that my father helped me out over the years and I'm happy to do the same for my son when I can.  After all, it's what parents do is it not?

I totally agree, I help mine out when there is a need or I can lighten the financial load.

The exception was when my second daughter was just spending money like water and each time I sorted things out, and made provision that she could get by, she went behind my back to borrow more from elsewhere. On that occasion we "had words" and I made her pay back what I had given her. She eventually got straight, although she still seems to save very little despite living at home with my Ex.

Well, yes, there are some like that.  I have always thought that prospective parents ought to be required to pass a test before being allowed to breed. ;)

Yes, that would be a great improvement.

Careful here .... often those who were most abused themselves as children become abusers. They need help as much as they need to be contained safely.

Agreed, but if they go on to become abusers, sterilisation should break the chain of abuse. Thus reducing the number of abusers for further generations.
