I'm so glad you mentioned your drains, Will !

Early this morning Von and I cleared the gutters on the 'annexe', before the really nasty weather set in.
Job done.

This afto' while it was heaving it down, I went outside to check the rainwater was happily going down the downpipes....It was...Huzzah !

Oooh.....I Haven't checked our drains for AGES.....Ooops...We had a very nice  block forming.....But catching it that early meant it was the easiest of tasks.....and to finish it off, a couple of buckets of rainwater hurled down the pipe shifted everything very nicely.

Does this count as synchronicity ?......Or is that just a coincidence ?
Hope yours is sorted now, Will.

Cheers - Phil

Evening chaps!

Since I have been de-catted, I've been busy converting my cat-room into a wargames room.  Still some work to do, but I thought I'd get a game in.

The deserts scene was picked because ... the desert cloth was first to hand* ... and I decided upon a French colonial (made up) battle.

1960: the French had become aware of Soviet MiG15s being based at an airstrip in ... an unspecified North African place. They were a bit narked so sent a small force to destroy the MiGs on the ground: 2 AMX13, 2 Panhard EBR and a weak platoon of the Foreign Legion, plus a couple of mortars. The airstrip was defended by a couple of T54s, a pair of PT76s and a scratch platoon plus a hmg.

Long story short, the EBRs scuttled up the right hand side of the table, whilst AMX got stuck around the fort with the infantry. The insurgent/freedom fighters had to charge through the village to take up position. One T54 and a PT76 got the worst of a duel with the French armour, being apparently incapable of hitting anything. The French, though more accurate, seemed to have difficulty with the armour of the T54 and it withstood several hits before eventually succumbing. With the armour defending the airfield neutralised, the EBRs calmly despatched the MiGs. Unfortunately for them a  PT76 damaged one of the withdrawing armoured cars and there was a bit of a tense time until it could be coaxed into action again.

Meanwhile, the French infantry sheltered in the fort were under fire from the other T54 and the HMG which had ensconced itself on a convenient rooftop. Under this cover, the insurgent infantry pushed forward towards the fort. This coincided with the French infantry deciding to withdraw, as the MiGs were burning merrily. Unfortunately for them, the T54 advanced and caught them as they crossed the railway line, causing several casualties.

This enthusiam was the undoing of the T54, and an AMX13 popped up from behind the fort and slammed an AP round into the tank's exposed rear.

With the 2nd T54 on knocked out, the  insurgent lost heart and did not pursue as the French withdrew.

Victory for the French, but at a cost. They lost the equivalent of a section of infantry, and the two EBRs damaged. The insurgents lost the HMG, and the two T54s. The two PT76s were damaged.

Enjoyable hour, and the new table is high enough to use comfortably (about 105cm tall, and 8' x 4' **). It has plenty storage space and a shelf at one end for dice, rulesets and rulers*** and I can easily make my way around all of it.

I'm a very happy FSN, and it was much better because it is a bit of a shared project with my daughter.  :x

*yes I know it need ironing - and the runways need flattening.

Great set-up and a fun game. Here's to many more to come.

Spiffy space, the cats would never have put up with it.
Liked the AAR as well (but given the BWP thread I was expecting a heavily repaired cromwell to appear at the end and save the day for the insurgents).

Well....there are three figures no-one's ever going to see, until I've changed some bits....(I won't even risk sending Leon photo's, in case he posts them. :-[)

Talk about it looking as though I was extracting the urine......They were going so well up until that point ! X_X

The annoying thing is that the bits I've made a mess of, are such small parts of the models.....But they don't half look daft at the mo'.
(When I showed them to Von, she cracked up laughing.)

That was very rude of her  :o.  Perhaps you should point out that you are a much revered maker of wargaming masters, throughout the country - Nay the world. This sublime skill you have pays to keep the wolf from the door and food on your table - and probably more importantly puts grain  in the horses nose-bags and hay in their mangers.

If all that fails - tell her that she should respect her elders and that you are the master of the house  - no, on second thoughts she will laugh so much at that she will get a hernia and you will end up at A&E again!

To be fair, Mark.

When I showed her the models, I did say, "Do these ears look like they belong to a particular cartoon character ? " (They did....so I don't blame her for laughing. ;))

"Techno's messed the models up,
it's plain for all to see.

Just to say....

I hope none of you were badly affected by the deluge in and around Sheffield (and beyond) yesterday.
That looked particularly grim for a lot of folk, in the North !  :(

Here's hoping Baccus6mm are OK.
Their workshop is in a fairly flood-prone part of town.
