Can I talk about business instead?

The house advantage in a casino is 2-3%, depending on game. This means that for every 100 brought in by players, only 97-98 leaves. Other costs are easy - you have the property and the staff. You don't need to hold stock, or have a supply chain. People come in, they play for a few hours, they leave a little poorer. Its a licence to print your own money.

Trump once went bankrupt running a casino.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

If we were running Pendraken at a 2-3% margin we'd go bankrupt as well...even with just premises and staff.  That's a lousy profit level, I'm surprised if that's an accurate margin.

Depends on the game and the exact rules being played.

0.3% to 30% is probably closer.

They have a much higher turn over.

Take Roulette.

All the odds are based on 36 numbers 50/50 red black etc.

Put £10 on Red and win, you get evens - £20 back Stake plus £10.  Bet on one number you get x36 back.  At the end of the night you should be even.

However wheels have Green 0.  This tilts the odds slightly 1 in 37 spins will not be red/black.  So I bet a total of 370 - 10 on black each time.  I receive back 360.

Slots are obviously the biggies - I think they pay 20-30% depending on setting (yes, they can be set, they are not truly random).

Remember that while 1000 sounds a lot to play with, on average the punter will spend 30 for an evening's fun.  But all those add up.

Even with a higher turnover, a 3% margin would be difficult to run on.  If we take £100k per week / £5 million per year going into the machines/tables, that's only £150,000 profit coming out of it.  That's not a lot to cover the premises, running costs and staff.  Even scaling those numbers up still looks difficult to me.  I'd imagine them to be closer to 10% margin on the gambing side, plus some higher margin sales streams to go with it, drinks, food and such.

We used to have ours set to 78% payout which most folks seemed happy with.  I noticed that some of the later night venues had theirs at 72% or thereabouts, but I'm sure there was a minimum/maximum payout level set by the licensing people, so you couldn't rip people off.  It used to be interesting watching some of the regular gamblers and picking up a few tips.  Some of the staff used to race to some of the machines if they'd watched them get filled up by customers all night long...!

I have an idea to boost Pendraken sales.

"Pendraken Pets" - lovely ladies in compromising and amusing positions. Now, before you all go SJW on me, hear me out.

These Pets would be sculpted by Techno. They would be the most beautful, most elegant. most realsitic 10mm figures ever created. We could even get some of our better painters to produce pre-painted versions to add to the allure - all at hideously infated prices, of course.

All the 17 year old lads attracted to the website by Warband will naturally gravitate to this range and be ordering Pebdraken Pets as fast as their part-time jobs can pay for them.

Pendraken makes a fortune - but thiis where the extra value kicks in.

All the Pendraken Pets will be barefoot or wearing some totally impractically heeled shoe. We all know that Techno, being brought up in a different age, is nervous of the female ankle, and can't make a strong one to save his life.  :P After just a few days of - shall we call it - play, the ankle will break, leaving our 17 years old bereft. He will obviously have to order replacements and end up on a perpetual cycle of purchasing.

For added incentive, some limited editions (at doubly inflated prices) could be offered.

The money will roll in to Pendraken. All it will cost in Leon's self respect and Techno's eyesight.

Leon - self respect ??  He plays Xbox Naked  :-&

It will cost Techno more than his eyesight if Mrs T finds out he I running his hands over the "Pendraken Pets".  Also he will probably go "all of a quiver" as he moulds some of the lovely ladies "features" and end up spilling more blood   :D

Um ... just been re-reading over the thread, and it seems I may have inadvertently started off the political comments.

Awfully sorry - but I'd heard that Angelina Jolie was going to be in "Orange is the New Black". Not confirmed, but I'm terribly excited.

Sorry for any confusion.
