I've still got some of those cards somewhere.  :-\

My introduction was the Timpo ranges.

As a kid I spent a lot of time in hospital, and got see my parents once a week. Every week they brought me either one Timpo cavalryman or two infantrymen.  :)

I had a few of the Timpo figures, but much preferred the Britians Deetial ones I had. I think I perhaps had as many farm implements and machinery as soldiers  :o

Woo-hoo! Three orders from Pendraken in two days! My cup of joy overfloweth into a faintly unpleasantly scented puddle. (I'll clean that up later.)

Those three orders are obviously for the same project ... right?

The first order was for Ottomans (Ottomen?) for my next phase in Napoleonics which is obviously the Ottoman Empire ... or the Swedes ... well maybe the Swedes, the last order was Swedes ... no definitely the Ottoman Empire. Certainly. Ottoman Empire ... not Swedes. Swedes after Ottomans.
Y'know I've always liked the Saxon Cuirassiers.

Second order was definitely the fault of His Obsidian Majesty. I may have intimated at some point that I think the BTR60 is a chunky beast and lo and behold, there appear BTR60s! Marvellous are his ways, and it would be rude not to ... wouldn't it?

Third order was on 1st January. There were two reasons for this. Firstly, I wanted to try out the new feature in my spreadsheet which tracks spending, and secondly I watched a video about the Winter War in the air. I can see some Winter War troops in my future. Just need some more pine trees. :-\

At that point I realised I just needed some T62s to "complete" the 1984 Soviets ... so they sort of got added.

So here it is:
  • 10 BTR60s
  • 2 BRDM2 (Didn't I mention them?)
  • 10 T62s
  • 4 Fokker XXI
  • 2 Blenheim2
  • 4 I-153
  • 2 Sb2
  • 1 unit of Janissaries
  • 1 unit of Sipahi
  • 1 battery of very big, silly guns
  • 0 Hope

Drat! I meant to get Gladiators and I16's.

Anyway, I'll get cracking on them after the Napoleonic Poles are finished.  :^o

:(

'tis true.

I'm OK though. Bern through a bad patch ... few impulsive purchases ... but I've got a plan. I've bought all I need for those odd projects provoked by Pendraken's 2022 releases (Arab-Israeli and Cold War), so I'm back on a even keel. It's Napoleonic Ottoman for me now ... or Swedes.

Anything else would be a new project and I can resist impulsive new projects (see Winter War aircraft).

Only one project at a time on the go for me in 2023.

I have a plan.

I can resist temptation.

I am strong.

Unless Pendraken bring out a new range.  :(

Don't think we're supposed to encourage further impulse buying Lord Speedy  :-\  :)

Mind you those Raiden Gladiators are nice looking, and I can assure you are easy to assemble!  ;)

And Raiden even make the Russian Hurricanes with a rear gunner that they used for artillery spotting (Code is RAI-GBR022)....opps  :-[

I can fully sympathise with fsn's impulse buying from my own "oh shiny new stuff" experiences, though I've been 100% good this year.

Hurricane I is "out of stock" on Pendraken.  :-\  I'll see how I get on with the Fokkers, then Gladiators are a definite possibility. (Who am I kidding?)

Having moaned about the huge amount of "backup" material that I have stashed around my painting desk, I was somewhat surprised whilst tidying through my games storage to find a box labelled "spares".

Yes. Another 47 assorted tubs.  :(

This all dates back to my wargaming resurrection. In 2013, I did away with all figures and models; all scales, because I found the One True Scale and its Obsidian Emperor, the Dark Lord. As well as those horrible 6mm, 15mm, 20mm and 28mm figures getting dumped, many pots of Humbrol Enamel paints were also consigned to the bin.  At that time, my local shop (the Widnes Modelshop) stocked Tamiya and Revell and Humbrol acrylics and I enthusiastically restocked.

This was before the Master of Shadows in his infinite wisdom made his will known, and I converted to Vallejo.

Anyhoo ... that's why I have, by my count, 161 non-Vallejo paints, inks and varnishes.

I actually like the Tamiya NATO black and there are 5 of those, so that's just 156 to deal with.

Thats a lot of 'spare' paint. The Tamiya paint is quite odd, a very quick drying time (i.e. on the brush), but goes on well and some good military colours.

It is a lot of spare paint. I'll use them on bases and terrain and other non-key areas.

I found the Tamiya to be of variable quality - the white is atrocious - but you're right about the military specific colours. Like I say, the NATO black and NATO green are still favourites of mine.

I think I bought the Humbrol as a transition from the Humbrol Authentic Colour enamels - which were my go-to before acrylics. I could cope with "British Scarlet", "French Artillery Green" and "Prussian Dragoon Blue" much better than "orc snot green" (sorry Orcs), "Elf earwax yellow" and "gnome being slightly disconcerted bluey-greyish-green".

This should have been a warning to me, but I was out at the Liverpool game shop (Just Play, Tithebarn Street, https://justplaygames.uk/) to buy a black spray paint. I hadn't run out, but y'know I needed a backup. Just Play had paints by a company I didn't know  Two Thin Coats (https://www.duncanrhodes.com/ttc-paints/). I was told they were manufactured locally,  so I just had to but a few.  :-[

That the reaction to finding 150+ spare pots of paint is to buy another 8. Suggests there is only one hope for you fsn. Buy more storage containers. And a second shed. And a lock-up garage.

Ah! Ah! Another thought. Buy more shinies to use up the paint! Right ... my next project has to use bronze, field blue, fern green, wild rider red (i.e. orange), sky, black green and Humbrol 171.

If anybody can find a use for Salmon Rose (VAL835) let me know, we got a load of them on special offer from our supplier and it seems to be the most unpopular paint in the entire range (and yeah, maybe that was why they were on special...!)
