WW1 MIDDLE EAST

Okay, I'm thinking of doing WW1 Middle East and have some questions for those who know much more about this than me.

1.   I assume the Aussies are in slouch hat â€" would it be reasonable to mix in some helmeted figures from the Imperial packs, which would also allow me to use Imperial Lewis gunners? I'm thinking about both infantry and cavalry, although Lewis gunners for the infantry only.
2.   Would it be reasonable to use the Indian Lewis gunners and Vickers teams from the 'British' range to compliment the Indian infantry?
3.   I think I'll need quite a few officers for command bases â€" any other options for figures I could use, even from other ranges?

All help much appreciated.

Some ANZACS  did wear the peaked cap as well in the middle east campaign

But not in the fantastic "Light Horseman", great film also historically correct, or so I believe.

"If the Lord spares us" is a great ruleset by the Two Fat Lardies on this campaign, only played it once but it was a lot of fun.

I found a lot of the Pendraken's colonial and WW1 ranges can be interchanged. I would check out the Boer war range in the colonial selection especially for officers (on horses) and also the NWF range for extra Indian troops etc. I think that you will be spoiled for choice!

Yes, a really good film and would recommend it as inspiration for this era.

A few thoughts:

Not only the Aussies but pretty well all the British troops adopted the slouch hat, in Messepotamia at any rate.

The solar topee (pith helmet) was also issued, although not popular.

Not all Indian troops wore the pagri (turban), but within any unit that did (Sikhs, Rajputs, Jats etc) they would all wear it.

The British undershirt was a dull blue colour, noticeable generally when artillery crews stripped off their shirts in the heat.

Great stuff, thank you all, and ITLSU is, as a confirmed Lardie, very much in line as the rules set of choice, although I also like the look of Peter Pig's Square Bashing.

So, it's looking like:

Use the Indian inf with lewis and vickers from the 'British' range.
For British/Aus inf and cav use a mix of imperial packs but with a greater emphasis on Aussies (for the slouch hat) and packs in caps from the 'British' range.

The mention of blue shirts raises the next question - what colours to use? I use the Army Painter method - a block basecoat spray, detail using Vallejo and then a 'dip' but using watered down inks and brushing it on. So, any suggestions on what colours I should look to use? For sprays, I use Army Painter or Montana Gold and thought the latter's sahara yellow for imperials and sand for the Turks, but that's just an initial thought. Colour chart is here:

Well I would say the Light Horsemen film is no where near accurate...All the enemy Artillery at Beersheba were Austro Hungarians not Turks,  The RHA took out most of the Turkish machiine guns before the charge started, and everyone seems to forget the British Corps that was attacking from the other  side of Beersheba  at the time, also the Mounted Rifles that did a diversionary attack further to the north to knock out some strong points
