Oh, the embarassment of riches!

I'll stick with the 7mm I just ordered from you yesterday.  8)

You're doing everything in the wrong order!

Before I saw the dice frames, I was already considering how to use my 5mm dice (I have plenty) in this manner, using thick Basetex or equivalent with a hole pushed into it to place the die in...

having seen the original 7mm version of the frames, I ordered up enough bare frames to test. I bought a cheap lot of 7mm dice from eBay - and they sent me 10mm dice   >:( I returned them, they refunded me.

But then I orderd up some more 7mm dice from another eBay vendor... 10 minutes before I came here and discovered the 5mm frames were available...   :'(

Oh, well, 5mm may be a bit small & fiddly anyway...   :-\

I seen that vendor on ebay as well but figured getting all the stuff from one place is cheaper in the end...

But why not have different sizes in dice and hit markers???

I tested the 5mm dice in the 7mm frames, and it was too hard to get hold of the dice & change faces. I'd prefer to keep the frame size consistent across bases, so I don't need so many dice!

I may still go 7mm, having tested the 5mm dice - but I can test them out.

I rather mean have both scales 5mm frames + dice as well as 7mms on other bases...

Yeah, I considered it, small dice for crowded bases, but I prefer the consistency of one die type across whole armies. I'll test it, i have the 7mm frames and dice coming, and I've ordered the 5mm frames, and already have dice.

I specify again: One army, one type of dice/frames. Next army.....

Yeah, but my armies will face one another (I'll be providing both sides for my regular opponent), and, again, I like consistency.

If I used different scales, i would certainly use different dice, but I stick to 10mm.

How about a third and fourth army in a different era and area  :-\

I bought Macedonians & Persians, then rediscovered forgotten Romans & Gauls. I've now expanded the Gauls to include Britons (lots of chariots), and added Carthaginians (before realising the Romans were the wrong period... I mistook different poses from the packs of Legionnaires for Hastati, Princepes & Triarii - so now I'm buying proper early Romans...)

I'm considering Spartans and expanding the Persians to their earlier armies...

All the same field. How about some WWI or II ? Or start Fantasy / SciFi armies..SciFi would look good with 5mms methinks.
I use 7mms for my Fantasy Dakr Elves and same size for 4 forces in 3mm :D

I do have a load of WWII I never did anything with...

Wulf

Well, I've tested both, and proven 2 things...

5mm dice are too small & fiddly when the bases are 'busy' with figures or terrain. maybe if I had longer nails, or used tweezers...

These frames are actually a bit fragile... I badly damaged one removing it from one plain base it was stuck to with PVA glue - it left a lump of one side behind!

The 5mm versions may still come in handy if I ever use my 2mm figures... but those are WWII as well, and there's no purpose to dice in Spearhead, my preferred WWII minis game...

But the 7mm version looks excellent with 10mm figures - with black dice, they neither disappear nor dominate a unit base.

Leon

Thanks for the feedback, I'll have a check on the 5mm's, as they stood up OK to some basic strength tests, but nothing more than that.  We can look at thickening up the frame if necessary.
