I'll add my vote as well

Hi there,

For my Vietnam US forces I'd be interested in the Huey rocket artillery versiosn (Frog and Hog). Seems to me these could be added as a fairly simple conversion pack for the Hueys. (Seperate pack with the bits to glue onto the Huey). Any chance of seeing this?

Of course, an open Huey with door gunners would help a lot too, but at least that is available from other suppliers.

Regards,

   Derk

Leon

Thanks for that Derk, we've had some previous requests for the open door version.

I can imagine, but I can also see how that'd be a significantly larger amount of work than a 'bolt on' kit with the rocket launchers for the frog/hog

Oh yeah, you're right.  We did wonder whether we could drill out the side of our current one, and then clean it up.  Not something we've had the chance to try yet though.

Is there any miniature of (or closely resembling) a Dshk HMG for my NVA forces?

As an alternative I am considering converting the AAMG version. A picture of the Russian Maxim MG would help determining if that helps for the wheeled mount?

Do you mean something like this?

The Russian maxim has the correct shield and the wheels, but you'd need the gun from the NVA range.  We could possibly do a conversion for this ourselves, so Dave's gonna have a play around with it.

Um, I don't see a picture there?

But what you're saying sounds spot on :) How do you intend to handle the gunner figure? As a #2 the mortar #2 would work fine I think :)

Here's one image of the prototype

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:12,7-%D0%BC%D0%BC_%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%8B%D0%B9_%D0%BF%D1%83%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BC%D1%91%D1%82_%D0%94%D0%A8%D0%9A_%D0%BE%D0%B1%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B7%D1%86%D0%B0_1938_%D0%B3%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%B0_%283-1%29.jpg

That mount unfolds to be the AA mount

Derk G

You sure about that? I'd expect this to be the anti ground mount that folds out into a low tripod instead. Also the gun shield and lack of AA sight suggest it's not intended for AA use?

Leon

Ah, knackers to it, I'll try a regular link instead.  The second one down on this page?

That's the thing exactly! Well except for the fact that the shield didn' seem to have made it to 'Nam (see further down) so that changes the concept a little.

Lentulus, I stand corrected, seems that it did indeed fold out completely to the AA mount when needed, and that the shield is removable:
The standard mount is an universal setup, which can be used for both ground and AA roles. Designed by Kolesnikov, this mount consists of a detachable two-wheel base and three folding legs, which form the tail-boom for ground applications and are extended to form a tripod for AA applications. Kolesnikov mounts were issued with heavy armored shields, but crews often discarded shields to save some weight and to decrease the gun profile when firing from wheels. In the AA role, both wheels and shield were detached from the mount, and an optional shoulder support can be installed.

In fact seems like the DshkM, without shield, is what actually was used. See e.g.: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?130407-Vietnamese-Military-Thread-(updated-on-regular-basis)&s=e8721ff068eef3e459f940a07a157db5&p=4076010&viewfull=1#post4076010

Is there any chance of getting an archetypal irregular VC fighter, black pyjamas, coolie hat and the ubiquitous AK47?

nikharwood

A judicious slap-it-on-thick-to-obscure-the-detail-and-make-it-look-like-a-coolie-hat paintjob on the helmeted types can do the trick [I mixed in a load of VietMinh codes too in my VC battlegroup] - have a look here:

Agreed, the missing LMG is more serious IMHO

I tok a very small order for Vietnam stuff, I don't know what I'm gonna do with it, mabye just paint them for the hell of it, or game or make a diorama, I just don't know, but what I do know is that what ever I do, I'm gonna need 1 or more Hueys.

Leon

We've got one, there's a picture of it in this show report: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=769.0  (Painting by Nik!)

Amtracs, got to have them.
Cobras

Hogs

Monitors for the riverine flotillas too.

Trucks and Mutts too.

Just saying with the FoW VN news, TFLs CDS, VN is ripe.

Unlike some people, I feel under no obligation to pretend that only one war-gaming scale is true, and that any others 6mm/10mm/15mm/25mm are mistaken; or that I know better than people themselves what is right for them to use. The point is precisely for all war-gamers to decide for themselves.
