Hmm - perhaps a slight generalisation? Not entirely sure HRH goes around doing this kind of thing...unless you've got evidence to the contrary? :-\

When Windsor Castle had that big fire the HRH initially wanted the taxpayer to foot the 40 million odd restoration cost.  Ie we pay to restore her own privately owned residence.   The solution she came up with was for her to charge for people to visit Buckinghamn Palace -  A building owned by the Country  and not actually hers to charge an entrance fee for!!!!

Likewise many of the treasures in the Royal Collection that we don't get to seev may well belong to the country
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2002/may/30/jubilee.education

Then we have the question of the root of the Monarchys wealth - The huge assests stripped from the church and other private individuals by her ancestors - Ie disollution of the monastaries by Henry lllV

How did "Freeloading Fergie" and "Airmiles Andy" get their names if not by abusing their position.

So while our royalty may not be so flagrant about it, they is a strong case that they do.

Then there are the Duke and Duchess of Kent who have a Seven Bedroom , Nine reception room apartment at Buckingham palace that they pay less than 1% of the real rent for !.  They dont perform any royal duties - so whty do they get this at our expense ?

Good man ;)

I trust the festivities went well despite the shitty weather?

Really well - brought the whole village together in a way I haven't seen since I first moved here. Slightly annoying that it looks today we'll be dismantling everything in the sunshine  >:(

Coincidentally, the drummer was laughing when she first came out!  She hula-d that hoop for the entire song as well.

Some random comments from another forum that I found amusing  :)

- HRH Prince Philipp looks remarkably spruce and sprightly for a man of almost 91. Must be the way he gets the snide remarks out of his system now and then.

- Anyway, I waved the Union Jack, and here's a health to Her Majesty. Live long and prosper.

- We in the colonies dont mind old Betts. The only difference if you are a republican is you would expect the queen to get her own beer out of the fridge.

- I reckon myself as completely anti-royalist but I'd be happy to have Aragorn as king.

- She did drive a lorry in ww2 loves the outdoors and I believe old Betts knows her way around a shottie too. They are closet rednecks if there ever was. Also out of all the monarchs in the world she would be second choice of Royal in the zombie survival party. Bloodnut Harry being first choice.

:D

For the doubters amongst us in the UK .. replacing the Monarch would mean we have to have yet another round of voting for a President, assuming the third English Civil War has come to a conclusion. Then we'd end up with someone like George Bush or Sarkozy!

I'll remain loyal to the Crown and look forward to marching with Rupert and his descendants ... what ho!

True we might, but we would not be lumbered with paying for all thier Siblings Uncles, Aunties, and third neice removed. and having to pay for said family for hundreds of years. We could alos get rid of them at the end of term.

Like we don't get lumbered with paying politicians wages...?

And expenses for duck ponds, second homes, waiters tips and callgirls/rent boys :-\

And somehow when we have the 'tenacity' to question what they do and hold them accountable they sweep the issue under the carpet, blame the voter, remove the funding from every qwango that is there to hold them accountable, make out 'were all in it together' and then carry on exactly where they left off :d

Hear, hear. I don't give a rat's a*se who's nominally in charge of the country so long as stay out of my life. The best that can be said of the Windsors is that they're not in a postion to enact legislation.

Considering Torry ideas for removing free school meals for the most vulnerable in our "society" (aka children) I daresay the Royals cannot be any worse. And that bs is just ONE of the things Mr Camoron has in his mind.

Seconding your view of "staying out of my life" as long as there is no interference with other peoples life. Your privacy stops where my begins. Life and let life and for gods sake use your brains before you spend gazillions on bonuses and
other undeserved transactions.
