Haha, splendid! The worst bit about shiny new figures is not getting them on table, so them being in use already is cracking :D

Second divisions artillery. I am still short a battalion (3 models) of 77mm but they are on order. The 10.5 cm howitzers are put together just need painting then added to the bases which are ready and waiting

Which means this is what it currently looks like as 2 divisions plus corps support

Added the Jäger zu Pferde to the Germans. This was a unit made up using head swaps after seeing J.S Fab conversions. It has just taken me so long to get around to painting them.  Green grey uniform created by using Field Grey and then adding a thinned Athonian Camo shade wash. Probably a bit too green but they are different to my Uhlanen.  Wouldn't mind adding some colour in terms of the saddle cloths but from what I can find they were FG

Tasty! Would a couple of pennants add a splash of colour - maybe not very historical but did they use them for marking out squadrons or something?

I was hoping that. Black and white for Prussian units :( haven't found any other way in 10mm of adding colour. The sword knot or bayonet knot is one route but as my bases are company representations might look odd and they aren't necessarily visible on most of the models

Ah, bugger, that's a shame on the pennants! Do any of them have a nice regimental flag even?!

Not sure about this for 1914 but maybe the cavalry from the other German states were still using their own colours on their lance pennants?

QuoteUntil their use fell into decline (in late 1914), these pennants also distinguished the identity of particular states. These were a very colourful addition to any cavalry force and, whilst the most traditional colours were for Prussia (white over black) and Hesse and Mecklenburg (both white over red), some interesting variations were employed. These included the striking pennons of Baden (yellow over red) or Saxony (white over light green) and the sombrely distinctive state colours of Wurtemberg (black over red) and Oldenburg (red over blue). Also reflecting its national state colours, Bavarian cavalry carried lance pennants of white over light blue.

Mine are Prussian units hence the white/black but lots of other variations are available

The jager colour was noticeably more green than feldgrau.

There's a photograph in D.B. Nash's Imperial German Army Handbook 1914-1918 of German hussars crossing the River Dvina in Macedonia in 1916. All their lances have pennons.

Working in the sunlight in the morning before the kids get up has meant the Russians have moved on a fair bit.

and

7.75 battalions of the 16 I need to do are now painted and based.  The Regimental command stands for the second division are also completed as are the MGs and Div Cavalry.  So......33 Bases of Infantry (99 figures) and 3 Artillery pieces to do when my next PD order arrives and that will be the Russians completed.

The Germans just need the missing 77mm Bn added and the second Brigade of Infantry (24 bases or 72 figs) need finishing and then I need to base all of the Divisional Infantry (48 Bases in total).  And that will be WW1 finished for a while......oh look more 1916 brits, oh well ;)
