Hello all

In the new year me and some friends are putting together a war of the roses campaign. We are relatively new to the Historical thing (but have done well at Blitzkrieg Commander) I'm however finding it very difficult/confusing assigning the correct banners to my units. I would guess I'm to be part of the Lancaster lot, but quite frankly their is a bewildering array of flags pennants and banners for the various different lords :o. Any help would be appreciated, or even just a list of flag pictures would be nice.

Thanks a lot: Dave  :D

The free flags on the Grimsby Wargames Society page would make a good starting place for you me thinks.

Wow.  Who does the flags for them?  I wouldn't mind a few looking like that!

The Osprey WotR book is good, and has many common emblems, with details of which families used what. Remember that you don't have to be accurate to be authentic up to about the 17th century; in other words, if you have a known family emblem but use it in a way that never actually appeared on a real 15th century banner, the chances are you have still painted a flag that that would have been accepted by lord and retainer alike.

Lancastrians, God's Own Faction  :D no crrok back murderer for us!

Apart from the more obvious Yorkist banners I wouldn't worry too much about historical accuaracy because

A) Over the course of the conflict there was a lot of fluidity in who supported who.

B) 99.9% of wargamers won't know if your flags are right or wrong, but they should help to differentiate the units in your army and be as pretty pretty as possible.

This is a great source of flags and banners

Go Burgundian Ordonnance (however you spell it) I had a 15 mm version and it was a rather nice force  :D
Sometimes I wonder - why is that frisbee geting bigger - and then it hits me!

Alan

Burgundians... oooh yes! I used to live on Lake Geneva (not actually lake geneva, more on the side of it), and I got to visit Grandson, Murten and Lausanne where Charles gathered his thoughts and army. Good stuff. If you get the chance all that kind of thing is well worth a visit.

Bernie

Pity the Burgundians met the Switzers!

Alan

true! It didn't go well for them...

Thanks for the Feedback guys.

I have decided at long last to go with Buckingham :d (yellow with a red chevron). Since they fought for both sides it means I can fight everybody else no matter what side they choose.

Now in your BEST Brian Blessed voice... "Chiswick! FRESH HORSES!" because we all know Brian Blessed is really like his characters in Black Adder and Henry V :D. A mental medieval killing machine...with a mace, sword or fruit knife ;D

Thanks again

Dave
