What a pity, I specially love to see more pics of the catafracts, in other sides.

Since I've already uploaded a pic of the army for another thread..here you go: Persia's glory in a shoebox  :o
Unfortunatelly, I have to say that I kind of regret having chosen 10mm for this army...too few poses, no heavy infantry, "gnome-ponies" by MagMil. ec. whereas there's a plethora of nice and complete 15mm Sassanid ranges  :-X
Maybe in 2015 or so when Clib continiues with the Pendraken range, I'll add some more units to this army...oh and the bases still need to be done.

Might be of interest: some "Persianized" Roman Clibanarii in the front row..as there are no shooting poses in the Sassanid range, I had to take those..

Great colours and fantastic painting!

Duke Speedy of Leighton

Those really look great, and I have a feeling that the Romans based their Clibs on Sassanids anyway - maybe they're Palmarians or Western Sassanids?

Very nicely done - striking use of colour  8)

Leon

Very nice!

I know what you mean about the range, it's one of those on the list to be replaced at some point with more variety.

Lovely all of them. I´m converting lots of clibanariis and catafracts of Late Roman Range into Parthian ones, with lots of diminute beards, persian trousers, etc.
Which is the Elephants Manufacturer? MM?

Outstanding work JS, have bookmarked this for future reference - I am both insanely jealous and inspired

Thanks a lot for the kind comments!  :)

And yes, the Roman heavy cavaly of late antiquity (and even far earlier..i once wrote a small paper for university on this topic) was strongly influenced by Persian designs, so it's no big deal to draft some Romans for the Sassanid cause  8)

Concerning the colours: I've read a lot of sources on this topic and even though no contemporary writer explicitly stated whether the horse armor had been a mix of blue and red or whatever, I got the impression that copying Achaemendid fashion was quite en vogue back then. And the Achaemendids loved their bright colours  ;)
Also my shield designs of the infantry are inspired by Achaemendid schemes..don't know if they really looked that way (no one knows..we don't even know for sure how Roman shields during the Punic Wars looked like) but it makes sense to me and looks good.

Elephants are MM, yes. Unfortuantelly they use same model for all their ranges and only change the riders.
So I hope these are on your 2013 to-do list Leon  ;)

You are quite right..I browsed in the WMA rulebook yesterday and saw the pics of the ancient Indian elephants there (page 8 ) and thought "Oh look, those are the same as my Sassanid ones"  ???  But there are actually more, mea culpa. Well..nevertheless Pendraken could still produce elephants with a plain design (no funny globes and bells) when the range is being redone/ enlarged.

I quite like the bells and stuff on the MM elephants.

Isn't the new Carthage elephant from PD pretty plain?

We like nekkid...not in pachyderms particularly though  ;D

African and Indian elephants are not exactly interchangeable, however.

The mighty shoebox strikes again! The other half of it is inhabited by the Romans at the moment. Here are some WIP pics:
