Sci fi Tripods

These are really funky models - and paint up really nicely [& fast!]; the large tripods are on 80mm x 80mm bases, small tripods & crab walkers on 50mm x 50mm - I've left off the crab arms from the crab walker models...









Spray undercoat black; bases painted with thinned Leather Brown:


Overbrush Chainmail, highlight with Mithril Silver:










Multiple washes: Green Ink: Magic Wash: Water [from the metalllic painting so it's got metal in it  :) ]






Then multiple Magic Washes, bases highlighted with Desert Yellow, matt varnished:

I think so [he says decisively] - I just thought they looked a bit more spiky / menacing...they're quite cartoony as-is and I wanted to shift away from that, so did this - it gives an impression that there are feet, but that the tripods themselves are so huge that their steps sink into the loose top-sand...I've got (in my mind at least) the sense that they're spraying out sand behind them as they walk...and sinking a bit when they stop to fire...
