4x6 recycled plywood on sawhorse legs in the garage.  Not the most convenient size but effectively free.

My table is based on some cheap B&Q kitchen units with MDF screwed on top.

A great idea will ahve to do something similar when I get the space  :-bd

I have 4 4'x2' boards that I lay over a table and support with trestles. I can vary the size to be 4'x4' or 6'x4' or for one memorable game 2'x16'. (That got a bit rickety.)

Until I get moved into a new bigger house (this next year hopefully) I have to make do with whatever space is available at the time.
Usually the dining table with a series of various terrain boards in different sizes (up to about 4 x 5) I have them stashed all over the house wherever there's a bit of room.
I lost the man cave a few years back, but I have been promised by "her in doors" that I get a dedicated gaming room once we move.  :D

I use two 6' x 4' marine ply boards, with taped edges and painted dark blue (for naval games - appropriate scenery and cloth for land games), these are slotted onto two plinths made from Ikea shelving blocks which allow lots of under-table storage. I can use them as two separate tables or as a single 8x6 or 12x4 (usually it stays as an 8x4).

This is housed in my purpose built games room:

which includes some before and construction pics as well (but note the table is not complete at the time of photography!)

Just a moss green faux fur throw over the dining room table, little narrow but i manage. Mostly play games lengthwise focusing on a narrom front  ;D

For war at sea i have blue kallistra hexon boards wich just about fit the table in the right configuration.

Can I say that I am jealous? What are good sizes for a table? What is the largest size table you would consider using?

So what do you guys use?       In the past I had some 4x3 boards similar to those used for exhibition stands but they got in the way ( wife's way)

Have now got 4 of the 2x2 green tiles but they take up loads of room, tempted to just get some green material and lay it on the dining table..... :-[

Six feet by four minimum I would say - unless you only play 10mm. Never more than six feet wide, however long you make it. Pretty well impossible to reach the middle if you do. I'd make it as long as practicable. You can always use only part of the table for a small game; lengthening a smaller table is difficult at the best of times.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

I agree with Hertsblue. You only really need to be able to get to 3 sides of the table so you could butt one up against a wall to give you extra space

If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

I have four cheapish foldable trestles and two 4X4 MDF-boards. Easy to set up and stow away.

I'm about to embark on the fool's mission of setting up Battle of the Auroch Hills with 10mm figures as well as building a scale model of the battleground. Maybe next year.

I get to take over our conservatory once a week for gaming. Its a nice long space, but does need a fan heater in the winter for warmth.

There is an ikea table in there, that is about 7' long when fully extended and I put 4 of 4x2' MDF boards on this to give a gaming surface, we tend it only use a 6x4 game space,  but the ends are handy for casualties and cups of tea.

I am wondering if I can expand to 5' deep, but this would make it tight round the sides. There is plenty of space to extend the length if I had a matching table / trestles.

I'm stuck with 2 5 x 2.5ft office tables (so a 5ft x 5ft) for my permenant table and I get to use 4 4 x 2 (so and 8ft x 4ft) on the 8 x 3 dining room table when Mexican Dave comes round for a hiding.

And that is the mistake I made all those years ago, two industrial fire doors, painted and textured give me a 6'5" by 5' table, but my trestles are the solid wooden type and take up way too much space.
Two advantages, the boards are ery light, and I have Velcro on the underside and on the trestle top, which means no sliding! :)
I may need to upgrade.

We use three plastic paste tables http://reviews.diy.com/2191-en_gb/9254696/reviews.htm?sort=rating to give a 6' by 6'. For all the reviews that say these tables are flimsy we've never had a problem in three years of using them. They pack down easily and a couple of them give you a convenient 6' by 4' table.

I have a pasting table, I moved the hinges to the long side and covered it with grass flocked paper - a great size for 10mm games

I'm really tempted by this idea myself as I need a folding table really as I can't do a permanent one.

Since I left my house 2 years ago, I now have to use my dinner table. With 3 MDF panels we have a playing area : 1,80m x 1,20m.
The only drawback is I can't set up a game the day before we play.  ( Or my daughters and I will have to eat on the sofa.. hey, that may be an idea...  :-\    :D )

I got an 8' by 4' piece of MDf from B&Q and got them to cut it into two 6' by 2' and a 4' by 2'. They are then easy to store and I built a wooden support so that I can put the whole lot on the edge of my paiting table and to either a 6' by 4' or if I want to clear the tabale then 8' by 4'.

I use 2' square TSS terrain tiles and then make scenary to add on top - keeps the flexibility

I have a 9ft by 5ft table tennis table, which is on wheels and folds in the middle.  It will be delivered to my new place in the New Year, and I hope to get the odd game on it before my "man shed" is completed and I move to something more in line with my megalomaniac tendencies.  I think the expression is something like Mwahaahaahaaaa! ;)
