The Gorgonzola Insurgency (or 'more ratmen questions')

I'm super pleased with the way my rat army of the Grand Duchy of Cheddar (League of Ratsburg) turned out. I'm starting to wonder about what sort of army would be led by the rebellious religious figure, the Ayatollah of Gorgonzola.

I'm hoping to get a lot more info on the basic ratmen range.

1) Does anyone have any pictures (other than the single shot on flickr) showing any of the range?
2) Is the rat in the bicorne hat part of the command pack?
3) The rat with a ghettoblaster, what is he wearing? Would he look out of place in a medieval/early modern setting (accepting that he carries a ghettoblaster)?
4) The rats with bombs/gas bombs, what are they like?
5) Any suggestions for the make up of the Ayatollah's army (for HotT)?

Cheers
;)

1 - I'm not sure, I'll have a look about.  There was a small command stand entered in last years Painting Comp:

2 - Yep, two Officers in bicorne and 3 standard bearers.

3 - I'm not sure if he's wearing anything, I'll have to spin one off and have a look.

4 - Both similar poses to the general sword/axe pose, with the bomb held in front.  The gas bomb version has a gas mask on as well.

5 - I think we'll need someone more into HotT to help with that one!

I can always send you some samples though if that would help?  Maybe in exchange for using some of your Ratsburg pics on the website?   :D

Hello!

Your rat army of the Grand Duchy of Cheddar is awesome!

I don't have any pictures for this range.

Your army will depend of what are you think for ratmen...

Are they numerous? Are they powerfull? You can have many Hordes with some Shooters or have Spearmen...

Here is what I will use for them (if I want a ratme army):

1 Airboat with FR15 = 3 pts
1 Artillery with FR16 = 3 pts
2 Riders with FR19 = 4 pts
6 Hordes with General FR6 FR10 FR11 FR12 = 6 pts
2 Shooters with FR14 FR18 = 4 pts
2 Spearmen with FR20 FR22 = 4 pts
Total = 24 pts

@Arsenus - for me, it is less about the fact that they are rats, and more about their loosely blurred theme.

The Ayatollah is a religious fanatic and charismatic leader, so obviously a magician general (necromancer FR5).

But otherwise, does he have a warbands or hordes (or a mix?) for the bulk of his followers? Or should serf-rats be treated as beasts?

What sort of specialist troops might the Ayatollah have for his fantastic ratman pseudo-Bolshevik-Iranian army?

Can the ghettoblasters chap (FR14) be used as the revolutions 'Ministry of Popular Enlightenment' (artillery or shooters)?

@ Leon - I hope that command stand won. They are really nice!

The Cleric troop type would seem more logical. But if the opposing army has no magicians, it's not really very useful, is it?

Hordes would suit lots of crazy followers best, I would think. Maybe some lurkers (with bombs/gas bombs) would be suitable, too. Otherwise a Behemoth is always nice, maybe a war mammoth/rhino with ratmen crew conversion?

Or maybe some oversize (28mm?) ratman as a God to be called upon by the Ayatholla to smite the Unbelievers. Or maybe you have a piece of Gorgonzola in the fridge. That should scare most opponents!  :P

Hi,

Here is some pictures of Desert rats... I do not know if they are suitable for your Ayatolah army... but they are ratmen at the end, so maybe you could find them a use

Thanks jchaos, great resource there.

Much as I like those little guys, not sure i could suspend my disbelief quite enough to have them in my rebellious serf army. I'll have a think on it..... I-)

Kassad

Excuse me for so big big delay. Irregularwars I hope these pics helps in your project.
Ratmen with blunderbus

Other with blunderbus. The two rats in the middle are "rats with assault rifle". I replaced the rifle barrel with blunderbus top to had various pose in the unit.

Ratmen with flamethrower (or could be ghettoblaster... I don't know :-[). I added a little barrel to the handle (grip) to increase the weapon dimension.

A warband. Various rats type with various weapons. The type in the circle is conversion with shield and plastic spear added. The original type carried only a knife. I think it could be a nice Ayatollah. Sorry I don't know the original name of this type because I bought a Ratmen army pack several Salute ago without ID code inside. Maybe Leon could help you.

Irregularwars thanks for your gentle appreciation about my commad stand  :) Have a good work with your Gorgonzola project.

Kassad, I am trying to get a sense of size; in your last set of pictures, are those 40mmx20mm bases?

Luddite

Absolutely lovely mate.

Excellent muted tones, great basing.

Yes Lentulus, 40x20mm. I prefered use "standard" HotT basing.
