Quite Ian !  Although the case in this instance may rest on "TRADITON" - which is the pillar  the British Army revolves around.   

Which explains in the 1970s, we were the last infantry to wear "putties" - howbeit wrapted tight to the ankle and not up the leg.

Least the puttees gave some ankle support, unlike the anklets I wuz given. Bought me own puttees.
