If you take that technology into a military context, how long before they can create drones capable of firing on the enemy whilst avoiding incoming objects?

Probably quite a while - these are relatively small and therefore light. Strap a gun to it and you'd have to increase the engine size, hence increase the weight, which means you'd have to increase the engine size.....

Maybe useful for assinations though?  :D

If an illiterate peasant with some rotting potatoes can do it, I'm pretty sure robotic, flying, ball-seeking machines could have a pretty decent bash  ;) ;D
