any chance of getting some WW2 Fuel trucks  :D

Good request.  As a post war gamer I use Gem Models Fleetline Foden and ERF.   If you need genuine WW2 then attack the model with a small hacksaw - and superglue the tank to the bed of a WW2 lorry.

Very few bulk tankers in WWII, mostly in cans/jerrycans.

To a point Ian,' Bowsers' as they were known were certainly available  The RAF  used them for both petrol and water . I have a nice Box Browni snap shot of my late father getting his Blenhem tanked up in the western desert. The tanker looks like  Bedford QL? So hardly bulk.      The Jerrycan was most prized because of its capacity and ability to take punishment.

Even in recent times, it was never practice to take a tanker into a forward area. A Bedford RLflatbed  equipted with what we called 'bulk tanks'would RV for rolling  replenishment.

Didnt say there wernt, but the bowsers tend to be where you need bulk fuel, ie airfeilds. British A echelon has 3 tonners, GS (about 30 in an infantry btn).

Ian. three brief comments and a question;

1.  I have a photo of an 8th Army Honey from Reccy squadron being refuelled by a bowser.  So in the fog of real war, you don't stick by the book if you want to survive.    Remember Sir Galaghad ?

2. Up until the 1960s, the favoured petrol vessel for the British Army was the 45 gallon drum.  In XMG as late as the 1970s we were replenished by a Wessex with drums underslung.  If you want to reflect reality in WW2 - then 45 drums is the answer. I have resin castings of such drums- don't know the manufacturer.

3. Wargaming is...a game.  If Old Smokie gets a buzz about scratch building/painting up a fleet of bulk tankers..then bully for him. I must admit I use tankers as decoys. In a 8-12 move one day game. they are only eye candy, but seem to draw fire away from more valuable AFVs.    Few of us heed the reality rule  book when it comes to blood wagons, yet a modern army cannot fight without its medical corps.   Should we create a morale factor when a field ambulance does not respond to events on the killing ground?

Question-  Are there any advanced rules out there that take account of the need to replenish fuel, water , ammo and RATS ?
               This would also need to cover evacuation of wounded as this impacts on morale.  Although I for one am not sure I want
               these grim reality checks.

Only SPI games - nice simple ones like Highway to the Reich, Cmpaign in North Africa.

System you probably know - Port or railhead to a main dump, break bulk there, send to forward dumps, load into unit tpt and send forward.

Thanks for these.  I actually did an AK47 Republic game with 15mm with a small airfield and a fuel depot .  Bit like the scanario in the Battle of the Bulge movie.    Last resort in the Orders, to blow it up and needing a D6 to do so.   The attacker had the option of replenishing by air - which also needed dice and risked his one and only beautifully painted  DC3.
We really get attached to these little lumps of metal and plastic !
