Colonial Infantry Command Figures

Hi!

So I am starting a British Army for the Zulu War. I'm using figures throughout the different colonial period, but the one thing I cannot find are really nice Infantry Command figures. As far as I can see most of the officers are wearing patrol jackets, with a variant of either a pistol or sword.

What I would like to have seen offered was a Command pack with 2 officer variants (in a regular jacket like the movie Zulu), a bugler, an NCO and a flag bearer (no flag). For the officers it would be nice to have a variant of the officers found in packs FPW9, and FPW10.The lack of a proper Command Pack almost put me off my British army project. What I decided to do was use the mounted officers (pack BW19) in their place. I understand that in general, the British no longer carried their flags into battle during much of the colonial period, however, I feel this would not only compliment the Zulu War series but also the Sudan series.

For me, I have I have my solution for my army in place, but I do believe that you might be hurting sales by not offering more dynamic infantry Command figures.

I know you think you are "protecting" Pendraken, or something, so I'll lay it out for you.

I enjoy the Pendraken miniatures and have ordered 3 fairly large projects from them. Of these three, one had a large miscasting on the infantry figures and I threw them in the garbage. Not a big deal, actually.

I've always wanted to do a large Zulu War British army and I finally took the plunge and bought a batch of minis. These included, 3 packs of standard infantry, 1 pack of Naval Brigade, 1 pack of Highlanders, 1 pack of lancers, 1 pack of artillery, 1 pack of gatling guns, 1 pack of mounted officers and 1 pack of mounted Generals. I have other things I want to add such as Dragoon Guards. Overall, I love the minis, they are of the highest quality, but the one thing they lacked, for a large army, was decent command miniatures. I thought I could use other officers such as those from the artillery and gatling gun packs, but these all wore patrol jackets. I kinda knew it was coming, but nevertheless, I was disappointed.

I then made an order with Steve Barber Miniatures who have a really nice set of infantry command miniatures. That order cost me 70 euros. Unfortunately, the miniatures from Steve Barber are much smaller that Pendraken, which again was quite disappointing and they went into the garbage.

So I was at the point of saying FK IT for my British Zulu army and that would have been the second and last time I ordered a large new project from Pendraken. Fortunately, I found I could substitute the infantry command miniatures with mounted officers and so I am now proceeding.

The reason that I posted this request is that, after 50 years in the hobby, I cannot believe I am the only one who wants really nice infantry command miniatures. The command minatures become a focal point for your regiments.

Overall, the Colonial line of Pendraken miniatures is absolutely superb. However, I believe that a nice set of command miniatures would generate greater sales for the entire Colonial range.

Kitty is actually rather lovable and as a teacher simply can't help himself. I don't believe he was dissing your post. Kitty is also a force of nature and may or may not confirm any of this. I rarely post these days but did want to give Kitty a chance to again correct my writing (in which there is at least two errors.)

Living in Spain and speaking at least two languages means your understanding of English as a language will be better than most of us. We just had the misfortune of growing up in England during a time where we weren't actually taught the way our own language worked. I can say that as an ex teacher things have gotten bettered, but ain't perfect yet... 🤣
So, enjoy the forum, its a wealth of knowledge and lots of silliness and humour, and ignore any comments about grammar, syntax and other pointless things (according to the 1970s &  1980s Ministry of Education).

We haven't communicated before. So I will join in wishing you a warm welcome to the forum. 

I usually turn up in threads of this sort to mention to newcomers that the forum is by turns warm, welcoming, well read, well informed on things military and also frequently well weird to boot! I often make mention that the forumites have raised thread derailment to an art form too.

I am absolutely certain that FK's comment was about grammar not the content of your post. FK believes English has rules that ought to be obeyed in the interests of greater clarity. I believe that as long as your target audience understands you you are doing it right.

As the the request for more command figures I have no interest in the period but I have asked for weirder things, one of which got made in a surprisingly short time! I wish you well in your quest!
