Paint Brushes

From time immemorial I have used Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes for my painting.

Whilst they have never been cheap, their price has increased markedly over the last year and they have become increasingly difficult to find.  Even a place like the London Graphic Centre (usually my "first-stop" for things like brushes, mediums and varnishes) has a quite limited selection.

I have recently see an on-line review of Raphael brushes, which are Kolinsky sable like the Series 7.  The reviewer seemed very impressed with his experience using them.  The Raphael brushes are significantly less expensive than the Series 7 brushes and, should they be widely available, might represent a good replacement for Series 7.

I was wondering whether any forum members had any experience of these brushes that they could pass on?

I'm sure everyone has their favourite brushes, but a quick nod of support to 'Rosemary & Co'.   Not expensive but, since swapping to these a few years ago, I haven't looked back.   Phil.

What type of Rosemary & Co brushes do you use? I've just looked at the website and there seem to be a number of options.

I use the Rosemary and Co Kolinsky ones, and like Phil above, have never looked back.

The brush I have is described as "Rosemary & Co series 33 kolinsky sable series 33".   Personally, for 6 and 10mm figures, I tend to use a size 1.

I only use synthetic brushes, ProArte my brand of choice and they have a reasonably priced range of Kolinsky sable brushes.
