The Pocket Challenge: Building with Limited Resources

Experimenting is good !
The initial experiment may not help too much, but it often gives rise to yet another idea !

I went looking for the only photograph I have of my very first and so far only attempt at working in 10 mm. I made the army when I prepared a force for Dragon Rampant, inspired by the Mousillon of Bretonnia from Warhammer. All Pendraken figures of course.

I built a single base for each type of troop and used them as small experiments to model things the way I wanted. That included everything from peasants with improvised weapons and armour...







to designs inspired by David Gallaher or characters from the roleplaying game that never became official Workshop miniatures.






The painting experiments were completely unsuccessful, but they helped me understand much better ways to experiment with the modelling, especially at this scale.




I sculpted crests for each of the riders, including the one carrying the drakkar, a snail, a whale a crab, etc...





One experiment that worked quite well was the puddle effect, which is basically made with melted plastic.




I will try to find a better photograph showing the full bases.
