Just Checking Number One Son and I were playing correctly.

We had a General, 3 Colonels, 4 horse, 4 Foot each. I make this 28 medals.
40% of that is 11.2, so a break point of 11.
I lost all 4 horse = 12, so I lose, yes?
(Damn just realised should have been higher - forgot to count the cannons. But if they hadn't been there, it was right at all 4 Horse going)

Horse seems a bit fragile, at just 2 hits each - is that correct?

Do out of control pursuing Horse take attached colonels with them?

If a colonel does pursue off, what happens to the rest of the wing? Are they stuck, and relying on the General to get over?
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

Hi,

Not sure I understand this. Colonels are supposed to be Brigade Commanders (p12), so it is odd to have 3 when you only have an army with 8 units. The medals for horse units depend on whether Swedish or Dutch tactics are used, so could be 2 or 3 per unit. Your commanding general should be worth 1 medal, plus 1 more for each brigade in his army. I am not clear how many brigades are in your army? Is it 1 foot and 2 horse? If so so your CG is worth 4 medals.  I do not recall the concept of 'attached' colonels or generals in FK&P, but I am of an age when that is not uncommon! Could you point me in the direction of that part of the rules?  Sorry to be so unhelpful!

Hi

Regarding the number of medals etc. there is a free down lodable 'Order of Battle Generator' available from here:

https://bigredbatshop.co.uk/collections/all/products/fk-p-order-of-battle-generator-20-4-18

Which works everything out for you.

Swedish Horse can be a bit 'fragile' as you say but being able to counter charge they tend to get their 'hits' in first against 'Dutch' (and Scots) Horse, (albeit the Dutch Horse will get to shoot their pistols as the Swedish Horse charge in, providing they have ammo of course, with a chance of disordering them (or even destroying them if they already have one 'hit'). They also get the advantage of being able to use their pistols in melee giving them two extra 'hit' chances (again providing they have ammo). So if they are not disordered, use a 'dash' chit and a ammo chit, they will get 5 hit opportunities, hitting on eights or above. Swedish Horse (being a 'two hit' unit) are of course more manoeuvrable than a unit of 'three hit' Dutch Horse.

Bye the way, my group do not use cards we use D10's instead.  :)

Yes, officers with a unit that pursue stay with it until the unit ceases to pursue (page 59, second column). Normal command rules will apply i.e. -1 activation penalty for an officer out of command range or off table.

Hope that helps, one of my all time favourite set of wargame rules. If I have got anything wrong 'Mollinary' is your man being one of the co-authors.

PS Just noticed he has already posted!

T13A Out!

Mollinary - It was a 'Learn the rules' first game, so it was small; 2 Brigades of 2 Horse, 1 brigade of 4 foot each. Hence a lot of Colonels! I've only got enough painted for 10 foot regiments total. Obviously I will have to paint more, but it feels like I have enough that I can still game - it's not one of those where you have to paint 15 million figures* just to get any game going!

Forgot it was more than one Medal for the C-G!

Think I need to reread it just to be sure - it felt we were doing it right, there wasn't a 'Really?' moment.

Thanks for chipping in T13A - I like playting with an OrBat generator!

From recollection of the rules, 100 pts gives a reasonable game?
